Default Need some prelude info please!!

I'm much better versed in B and D motors than in H motors... with that being said i have a few questions. I have to put a motor in a 99 prelude with the auto/tiptronic tranny. I need to know if the 99 was obd2a or obd2b.. or did they even do the A/B separation with the preludes? If so what year ranges fell into the A/B designation?

Apparently the 99 has a h22a4 in it... was this motor offered in japan or was it simply the h22a? sort of like how we got the b18c1 and japan just had the b18c etc
Thanks in advance everyone!!!

The Prelude in Japan rocked the H22A motor, which has higher compression, is OBD1, and makes a bit more power. The Preludes here rock the A4, which is OBD2. As for OBD2a or b, I have no idea.

Ok well that makes things a bit more tricky...

will all the accessories, intake manifold exhaust manifold distributor etc etc etc from the h22a4 bolt onto the h22a block?

My goal here is to put a jdm h22a into a 99 prelude base model for a fried i have. Not for performance gain... the original motor ran out of oil and went boom.

any snags i should look out for or is it simply bolting all the obd2 **** onto a obd1 block

whats the deal with the oil pump? Is it better or does the obd2 pump have a sensor on it or something that needs to be installed so the ecu doesnt freak out?

Thanks!!!

All the Preludes were OBD2A. All JDM H22s were H22A.

An OBD2 H22A will be pretty much plug and play, except you will have to swap to a US OBD2 style oil pump (for CKP/TDC) and US distributor (if you don't want to do any wiring).

OBD1 US motors and all year JDM motors had all the crank sensors in the distributor which runs off the exhaust cam (CYP, CKP, TDC). US OBD2 motors moved CKP and TDC to the crank snout, mounted to the oil pump housing.

It is possible to run without doing the oil pump swap, however, you'll need to
a) adapt your harness to a OBD1/JDM style distributor and
b) use an ECU designed to run all sensors in the dizzy. I've found a OBD2 US ECU can run it but it will at a minimum want to throw misfire CELs (Moving CKP and TDC was based on a US OBD2 requirement to pick up on misfires).
