anyone ever import a JDM type r? as in the whole car?
just wondering if anyone has done this. the cars and the shipping aren't too bad. what i can't find any clear information on is registration and what's needed to make the cars legal in the US.

Actually, many people have done this
But I don't think importers are going to give up their secrets to register the cars. I mean, you can do it with lots of research.

totally a hush hush type thing. it's the only way to maintain the value of the cars though. from the sounds of things my best bet will be with some of the RHD guys at the track with legit JDM cars. like you have mentioned, people on the net who don't know me are unlikely to give away their secrets.

I bet not , and i also bet its not because of you "flooding the market"
If you want information about Registering a car locally ( local to you ) we need to
first know what state you live in
Second - IDK my car is USDM
which really means <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by idrivesideways »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">people on the net who don't know me are unlikely to give away their secrets. </TD></TR></TABLE>
Which i agree with also .
Bot anyways , to not bust on you , and help you a little bit
From my Little experience with RHD cars ( I've lived in USA my whole life ) I really am not the best person to talk to ,
But i do know 20+ people with assorted RHD cars , and im pretty sure most of em ( ALL who I Hang with/ talk to on a daily basis )
They will all tell you to just buy a car that is already registered in the United states .
Basically your easiest option .
Figure it like this , as an example .
a 96 ITR , in japan , would go for lets say 5K USD .
Here that same car , same mileage , AND has already been registered , would go for about 7-10k . From what i have seen in my searches .
So really you are going to be paying one way or the other ,
1) cheaper car , but YOU have to go thru the Reg process , Which is a. costly , b time consuming , and c. an overall pain in the *** , depending on local state law. )
2 ) more expensive car , but you go to the DMV with the owner , transfer of ownership , and go drive your JDM ITR all over America .
FWIW , i wanted a RHD car , but i didn't get it because it was a pain in the *** , and limited selection .
More because it was a pain tho .
Good Luck man .

i live in oregon and have an address outside of DEQ that i can use if need be. there is another JDM car that i have had my eyes on and found a couple dealers with what i'm after. once i unload that sky...uhh..car off the boat would it be legal to drive home or? the majority of shippers that i have found all ship to the major LA ports. if they came to portland that would be great but the average quote is $1800-2000usd to LA.
