Default TYPE R Saved from theives: niles, Chicago burbs

Hey guys. havent been here in a while. my last post was when all my type R investments were stolen in June. this is original post
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2317990

Last night the R was stolen from my friends garage. I slept over cuz we decided to play x box pretty late. He was nice enough to let me leave my car in his garage. His dad leaves for work at 6am and woke us up to say the car was gone and the garage was opened. Luckly I had a cell phone GPS that I had made about 6 months back(trust me it has alot of faults). First thing i did was go online to track where the car was last. the last point was on 94 going toward chicago so I called 911. The cell updates every few minutes which worried me. They worked with me fairly quick. This means the car waas stolen within an hour ago. Anyways the theives were caught. I felt the car was safe so I didnt put on the auto lock and didnt flip the kill switch witch was my fault. i still dont have my car b/c is impounded at this moment. I also got a report saying the the steering wheel area is all damaged. cops suspect there was another car invloved which was not caught. They say this b/c there was only one guy in the car at time of arrest. This means there was another car that drove him to the suburb. They decribe him as hispanic but wont give me names or anything else. Honestly im mad b/c i could have prevented this by putting on the kill switch and auto lock. PPL is you want to invest in a cell phone GPS go for it b.c its cheap and it saved my car this time around. It does have lots of faults as there is no early warning. There is a thread here somewhere that allowed me to create the device.

That's awesome that at least one of them were caught. Perhapse they can check out their house and maybe link them to some of the other missing Chicago caRs!

Its a good layer, but has its pros and cons. Way better than LoJack since you are in control. Downsides are signal, if you live out of coverage the unit is useless.

Accutracking: What is it?

Theres a reason why Chicago seems to have the highest theft rates.. the demographics there are well... NOT in the itr's favor.

Be careful with generalized statements. You imply that the lower income individuals are the only ones involved with theft. One could also say, with lower income areas there would be less ITRs available to steal. Those types of statements can easily be manipulated, thus are not accurate.

Sorry that your car got stolen but the bright side is you will get your car back intact with the exception of the busted ignition. I was not as lucky when they stole my ITR in april, also hispanic from a witness when they dumped the car. The good thing that came out of this is someone got caught in the Chicago area. Maybe he will give up the rest of his group of thieves. All ITRs nowadays need some sort of GPS tracking.

Definitely work with the detective that is assigned to the case and get as much info about the guy as possible.

Come on Ryan. You and I both know that the people stealing these things are at the lower end of the demographic scale. It's all well and good being politically correct in certain circumstances, but in this case everybody knows who it is that steals our cars.

I'm just glad that your cell phone tracker got the scumbags caught. Hope the cops beat the **** out of them.

I'm really glad you got your car back and at least one scumbag got caught. Lucky for me, the area I live has a reputation for zero tolerance of ppl like that. That keeps alot of things safe in this area besides cars.

well...

i'd think that the thieves pretty much go on these boards as well.

so that GPS thing will probably work for a lil while....

but it sure is a good idea.

these guys will not tolerate statements such as this, cuz they would never think that people would do things like this to a "R".... by an "R" owner.... type r owners look down their noses at everyone else in the honda community, so you cant have type r parts on anything other then an R..

wtf are u talking about.. just trying to state that it could be the person who robbed his friend before.. dont have a problem with ppl have R parts on the car.. if they paid for it..op sell parts of their car all the time..

fyi.. the reason i think most R owners look down upon op..its because they ask such dumb questions as " could i make my ls auto into a type r? isnt it the same?"
some ppl drive a pos and still talk down to other ppl.. thats just the world we live in today full of haters...

I think they followed me. They saw my car on the road and l prolly litterally followed me to my buddies place which was right after dinner around 730ish. Still havent got a call to pick up the car.........The impound said they arnt open on sat or sun so hopefully on monday. This isnt the first time my car was saved from theives. The very first time was 2 years ago at Streets of Woodfield. I had my auto lock in place and there were saw marks everywhere(just to let you guys know I put one on the clutch and brake or gas). I also didnt have an alarm at the time. After that incident I continued using my autolock and added a kill switch. Seriously this autolock thing works up to a certain point. It really is an awsome layer guys. I can say this from personal experience although some may say otherwise.
As far as the cellphone GPS, the range is actually very good b/c its Chicagoland area. Anything out of that is......uhm hmmmm not too sure..lol. but it is another good layer for less than a hundred bucks. I think i paid like 80ish for everything. Also the cops came by my friends house for some detective work but they saaid nothing except for the screw driver they left behind............really sucks. I hope the guy that got caught will fess up somthing.

So a little up date. I picked up the car yesterday from the impound. It was a sad sight as I saw multiple hondas just stripped to crap. But I did get my car back. Had it towed to a nearby honda stealeriship to get the ignition fixed. Its going to cost a fortune!!! ANy estimations as the dealerships never give the right number anyways. Im just glad to have my car back. This crappy GPS is still a gps and it worked this time around. R owners, if you want to keep your car, kill switch, autoloc, and any gps.....is a must.
