Wow good info but i have tried partial sponsors when I had my recent car. Had most of the car done just would of liked some help. Regardless I managed with out any ones help but my own money, blood, sweat, and tears I destroyed SM in my region this year, No losses only 1st place. I was trying to get heavily into more track, although despite my short amount of track seat time i took places in every time attack i showed up to, and yes there was more than 3 car haha give or take 20 in each class. So unless I went about it all wrong but it was near impossible to get someone to listen for more than 2 minutes. In the end i sold the car because i couldn't afford the next step the car needed to go with out some help. But I guess you can't let this discourage you.

There are definitely alot of people who don't understand what it actually takes to plan a project and how to pursue it. Depending how far you would like to take your build from track, shows, a good daily driver, etc... like you said, soley depends on your intentions of course. I am planning a project myself, but have some time to wait, one of the obvious reasons of course is funds. One of my friends who owns Plan B Motorsports always offers me cost going through him, which I am grateful for and appreciative. I have no problem advertising for him to help his company and always refer people to his shop. Like you said Ralph, friend or not, you need to show alot more than just ideas to your prospective sponser, they want to also know whats in it for them.
I have about a good year or more, really depends when I achieve my collection of funds, but my sole use of the vehicle would be for track. I am calculating my project to be in the mid $25k or even close to $30k, so I have to stay on track to making it work out and stay in one direction.
Good write up
Hows your s2k coming along, hoping to see some good end results soon.

Good luck with your project .. seems like you have it all lined up pretty good. That is the key, take it step by step and make sure you get it all done right. Especially with a track car you dont want to go cheap in places as it will bite you in the *** later on. Its as you say, if its a friend you are in luck, as it makes your life easier but either way its all about what you can do for them.
My s2k finally arrived home! Now time to sort it all out and get it MOT (road worthiness test) so I can drive it around
Will be posting up some pics soon as I have heard it is out in Super Street already.

odd, I posted a long narrative in here, and it's gone. Oh well.
The biggest thing I learned is you've got to put good money into the car initially in order to be taken seriously. They get guys every day asking for free parts for their stock car, but you've got to offer them something in return, do you race? Do you actively participate in shows, w/trophies to prove it? etc.

Definitely .. if you have something to show already (in terms of a car with $$ dropped in it or even a project car that you have already completed) sponsors would be much more interested, as you already have something that shows what you can do.
If you have trophies from shows or anything else that would make you sound more credible for a previous car or anything similar definitely mention it
Remember use everything you have to make you seem like a better bet than all the other people writing in for the same parts, but at the same time try not to go too over the top as this could go against you.
A balanced proposal is the key
