Default hey i really need help, 92 DA wont start unless push started. please help me

hey i just traded my 94 integra for a 92 integra, anyway. and the thing will not start what so ever with the key, it will only push start. when you turn the key over all i hear is a click, sounds like its trying to use the starter but i think it may be [freak]ed up... all i hear is clicking with turnin the key, no attempt to start... and the check engine light is on. and the guy also said afterwords theres no 02sensor... not sure what that is so anyway, PLEEEEEEASE HELP ME i really need it... any tips will help me. im stuck with a push starting car....

Sounds like the starter went bad, so just get a new one and it'll start up like a champ every time. You could get an 02 sensor and it will make the check engin light go off but the car will run fine with out it. I dont know what the smog laws are out there but to pass a smog test you will need an 02 sensor.

double check the main lead from your battery to the starter. the clicking is likely the silanoid. either the motor is bad, the lead has came undone or your batter is dying due to a bad alternator.

Your starter has a solenoid on it. Take a small hammer or something with some weight and just tap/bang on it a couple times. It should start right up then.

This isn't a fix, but it's temporary to get to A to B.

Check your grounds, and all connections also.

My girls SI wouldn't start because of stupid corrosion on her ground right next to the starter.

well i have full power to everything else to the car, like the lights inside, the head lights, (and also the headlights are extremely messed up, the right fog light and head light are EXTREMELY dim, like wayyyy dim, but they do work that was another question i was going to ask) and the radio, all that works, so i'll try that tapping on the starter method, but if that doesnt work what is my best bet on doing, im trying to save as much money as i can because i dont have any lol. so what should i do next if that doesnt work, what kind of test's can i personally do to figure this out??? and how do i check the alternator, and check to see if the battery is dead???

--- Let me add this. When it was just her ground... Her headlights were dim and also some of her cluster lights. Everything worked perfectly fine though. Kinda sounds similar.

Its probably an under dash relay, anyway run a large guage wire at least 8 from the battery or the pass side fuse block main to the starter solenoid and then attempt to start your db1

Another thing to check would be the clutch interlock switch, and to bypass the ignition switch you could run a jumper wire from the battery to the tab on the soleniod were the black and white is and it should turn over. Just make sure its in nuetral.

alright i had a breakthrough!!!!! alright i seen this dude on another forum saying that his car would try and turn over at all (like mine, it does not attempt to turn) and what he did was he left it on the II position, as if the car was started ya know? and left it for like 5-10 mins, and then it would start up right? i tried that, a couple times, and one time it worked, it turned over no problom and started.... now it wont do it again, so i know the starter works, but what would make it do that, leavin the key on the II position for awhile and have it start? what do i need to do now?

I had the same issue & it was one of the grounds right near the starter. Check all your grounds first and make sure they are still perfect and not all corroded like mentioned above.

goodluck

there should be a bolt holding in the starter ground & battery ground if i remember correctly... its under the battery tray. its easier to take the tray out to get to them

in my DA there was a clicking sound, the car didnt start and threw a CEL. i was thinking main relay since it came from under the dash. turns out it was some 7.5amp fuse that blew as well as the ECU fuse under the hood. check em. GL

yeah, and it only sparks when i hear the starter clicking, when i hear no clicks under the hood or the dash, i dont see a spark, but when i hear it, i do see the blue electrical flash... i know it has something to do with the ignition, cause i've started the car twice with the key, other times have only been pushing it... so when i move the ingition key around it sparks and in some places it wont do anything.... what should i do?? should i buy a new ignition???

This almost seems like a fuel pump issue. Perhaps the pump is going out and can't build pressure or the relay is bad. Car still on the original pump?

Seems like a few different issues going on (I'd check your starter and battery too).

if you push start it and it works then its most likely your starter. replace that and call it a day. no way it will be your alternator cause if it is it will drain your battery and you wouldn't be able to push start it i know it happened to me.
