Default Overheating Problem, Turning Clicks, Grinding Clutch= $500 :[

So i found the ef of my dreams " 1989 Dark Blue Dx with Power windows"

Turns out that it had a overheating problem...so ok heres the deal, i live in el cerrito ca and i found it on craiglist, the ppl who sold it ran a impound lot that's why i got it for soo cheap. I took the bart and 3 busses today just to cash out for it...i didnt kno it would be in such a horrible condition...i had no choice but to buy it cause there was no turning back i didnt travel for 4hrs just to flake on it i already knew that it would be a project for me.

the car came with no motor oil so i burned the engine for a good 2 miles tryna dive it home on freeway 1 north going to 17 North back to SJ/oak area, till i noticed that it had a overheating problem...damn luckly it came with 2 jugs of water in the back (no wonder) anyways it took me 4hrs to drive to san leandro and i had to pull over 6 times, 1 from the CHP, 2 from the CHP Tow ppl who gave me water, and the rest from just from the overheating and leaking.

anyone know how to fix my problem? a new radiator, thermostat, and a water pump perhaps? maybe i could get one from a pick and pull and a new clutch.

I'm not sure a radiator will fix problems caused by driving 2 miles with no oil...

It probably has a blown head gasket, but you need to do some diagnosing before fixing.

before you start buyin random parts you should diagnos what the problem is, cuz if you buy a head gasket and its the thermostat causing your problem thats just a big waste of time, but i agree you probably blew the head gasket, but figure out the exact problem before buyin parts to fix it. and just buy a new head gasket from a parts store not a junk yard cuz they cost like 10 bucks new

Just stop and start doing some diagnosing

First, oil change
Second, add coolant (mostly water since you know you are probably going to lose it)

Start it up in the drive way, let it idle, watch the temps, etc

Do the fans kick on? Once uncomfortably warm, turn it off. Coolant in the oil? Oil in the coolant? Can you run a compression test? Leakdown test?

Don't drive it.
