Default Want to see what happens when you hit 10k on stock valvetrain!!!!!!!!!!!

So its been a while since I took this motor apart but was going through some pics and found these so I thought I would post so everybody could see.

I met this guy through a friend and he said that he misshifted and hit 10k rpms, the pics speak for themselves.

When i took the head off this is what I saw ONLY THREE PISTONS!!!!

You can see it better here

I found it though!!!

This all started with valve float then broke off the head off one of the valves and shot it back and forth and chewed everything up

This is the remaining pistons, you can see the rod is bent to all hell

crappy pic but it is a close up

this is one of the pistons and it is cracked all the way down the side

So if we didnt learn anything then make sure you post your pics when you rap it out on stock vlave springs!!

Yeah I bet he puts a rev limiter on it now. That is nuts, I know a guy here that had head work done to his b16, new valves, ported and polished, cams and all, put his sons ecu in it with no rev limiter, missed 2nd and there went all that money... sucks man.

Rev limiter wont help you one bit if you miss a shift, sure it'll cut off fuel to the injectors, but the engine will spin over faster than the rev limiter would normally permit.

To the OP, Wow, just wow.

Could that block be fixed if you get new cylinder walls and new pistons in the block. Can the head be remachined?

yea it was a 99 si, and he didnt have the money to get a new one or pay me to install it so out of the kindess of my heart I put in a ls motor he got for pretty cheap and he gave me the b16 and the ls trans. so I got like 18 bucks for scrap cause I didnt take the crank out so I got dirty alum price but all in all the cams were still good and I got to reup my honda bolt collection including little things like crank pulley key and crap like that.

You know I was wandering the same thing about the block, maybe getting it sleeved but due to the excessive damage you just dont want to invest in something that is iffy. as for the head it was trash there was no saving it at all.

this has to sound really bad, but could someone explain "missing a shift".

3 month civic owner and I shift at like 3k, 4k max.. how do you even justify going over 6k??? just seems crazy to me.

just go to a track or be a ricer one day and find a street race ahha

it usually means they shift....1.....2....3.....2.4..........first second third back into second then into fourth like they intended....some people tend to do it when they have a short shifter

yes sir, I know a guy that did it and messed up a valve in his head, just for going back to 2nd instead of 3rd... luckily that's all he messed up... He sold the car and told the guy it had a cam in it

and it is...

i don't think he meant they purposly shift from 3rd to 2nd. i think he was trying to say with a short shifter it seems to be a little bit easier to miss a shift especially in the "heat of the moment" lol
