Default serious problem!!!! half shaft stuck...

ok, so i blew my axle last week, i had a whole nother half shaft and axle from a parts integra i bought, so i threw that half shaft and axle in, everything went perfectly. cept that i smashed my finger but any way, so i got it back together and been using it the last 2-3 days now and everythings been fine but last night it started pouring oil out of the axle seal at the half shaft, so i pulled it all apart again today and WTF!!! the half shaft wont come out of the trans, its completely stuck. im freaking out because i just put a brand new Type R transmission into my integra just a few months ago and its only got like 3k miles on it.. wtf could be wrong? what can i do?

I forget, can you see through the diff of a stock type r LSD? Maybe knock it thorugh the other side, if possible.
If you used new clips, they might just be realy tight. I've used a large flathead and/or a pry bar to wiggle it out in the past.

Half shaft on the driver's side is bolted to the block. Did you remove the bracket?

pry bar... or a big punch and hammer worst case should be you mess up the clip which you should have another one from other half shaft( the trans should be fine)

if i remember correctly, there isnt a clip on the half shaft going into the trans. it just slides in and then bolts to the block. if you have unbolted the 3 bolts on the back of the block..and its still not coming out with a couple love taps, you have a problem

Not to be a dick, but seeing that he already swapped it out, he knows that already.

Have you ran this half shaft before with out a problem? Maybe the male end is slightly bent? Causing it not to seal correctly, and now it's stuck.

A bad halfshaft is useless. I had one with a tiny bit of play on the female side of it, and I snapped an axle because of it. Broke perfectly so there was no way I could get even a finger on it to try and pull.

have any access to an air hammer? instead of brute force trying to pry it out short blows might be able to tap it out.

it worked perfectly when it was in the other car, but maybe it was slightly bent and driving with it made it worse or something, but i talked to my buddy and he also said try hitting it with a hammer to try and loosen it or pop it out. so ill try that tomorrow and let yas know what happens...

well i have good new and i have bad new....

good.... i got the axle out of the trans and the half shaft and axle seems to be fine.

bad... closer looking at the half shaft showed the end was getting a little scratches and chewed up (side that goes into the trans) and then when i looked into the trans there were several "LARGE" chunks of metal in it...

if you set them next to eachother they almost form a complete circle, so im thinking right where the axle goes into the trans... one those pieces must have blown apart...

well i guess my brand new Type R trans is efed up now and my worst fear was true...

from what you descrobe it sounds like your carrier bearings are shot. most likely your diff is no longer good because of this.

i've had this happen to me with 2 different trannys. one was a gsr and one was a y8.

symptoms
-hard time removing axles
-hard time putting the car into gear when stopped
-if you stick your finger in the axle hole and wiggle your finger around the diff wiggles too
-axle seals leaking even after replacement
-finding chunks of metal in the diff

there is basically 2 solutions. either buy another tranny, or have someone replace your diff. i just bought new trannys when i had that problem. for me it was a lot easier than ripping a tranny apart.

if you are able to pull the tranny out your self and supply the replacement diff. it's not a huge job at all for a tranny shop.

theres no way im replacing the whole thing when its already new, plus i dont have another 2600 bucks just laying around to get a new type r trans... im probably just gonna pull it out and take it and have it fixed... and when i stuck my finger in the diff. nothing was wiggling around, it was fine literally only 15 miles ago so i probably caught it just after it happened and saved it from causing extreme damage....

ok, so since my camera and comp are being gay and wont let me put pictures on for some reason i went and did the next best thing... GOOGLE lol... any way, i found a pic that will show you exactly what i blew apart...

http://images.google.com/imgre...a%3DN

that link will take you to a bunch of different pictures... go to the very last one and if you click on it, it enlarges so you can see it a little closer. NOW, keep in mind i have very little experience with transmissions so im not to good with them, except for pulling then out and putting them into a car... any way, on the last picture if you look all the way to the left to the biggest gear there. if im not mistaken that the differential correct? well in the middle of it is where your axles would do into it. well if you look inside the center where you can see like a groove going around the inside the center piece there. that piece with the groove is what blew apart, and i mean BLEW apart. i have 4 good 1/4 inch wide and about inch long pieces that have that groove in them...

so today i called up the place i got the trans from and told them what happened... they told me to pull it out of my car and send it back and they will look at it and then just send me a new one by warrenty and that by what im saying it sounds like the diff was faulty... getting a new trans for price of shipping... i can deal with that.
