Default Paint code question.

I have a 97 civic and the paint code is nh-583m. my brother has the same color but his is a hatch and mine is a sedan. on his paint code it is nh-583m-4. what is the "-4" represent? a different tone of the VSM paint color?

From what I understand, it means the color will be a little bit different than the ones without that number. So if you want something paint matched, make sure you include that number.

i'm actually trying to buy a door at the junkyard and the sedan that has the door i want has the -4 at the end of it but mine does not. it is the same year generation like mine which is 96-98 body style. you think it will still be different?

The color might be a little off, but if you need a door I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Okay, I just got more information on this (by accident, much less).

I'd always been told it was a "batch code", which I suppose it still could be called.

I just found information through AllData that says that the cars built in Canada had the -4 at the end. This would explain why all the Roma Red cars (which only came on hatchbacks, which all US ones were built in Canada) had the code R-97-4.

So there's the correct information. I'm sure that the silver painted in the US and the silver painted in Canada could be slightly different though.

Sorry about any confusion before.

I thought for sure my hatch was R-97 (without the -4) so I went to take a pic, and sure enough the -4 was there!

So you think that the codes with the -4 may be different? I havent noticed anything different about mine than the USDM Civics...

Well, on US Civics Roma Red only came on hatchbacks. USDM '96-'00 hatchbacks were all built in Canada. The coupes were all built in Ohio. The sedans were built in Ontario, Ohio and Suzuka.
