Default lilbill's CRX build thread

hello HT

my name is "J" (aka lilbill) i have been a HT member for a little and have been reading up on the build threads of other members, now i have decided to start one of my own. i want to apologize now for the long post. i will try to keep my story short but here it goes.

i own a 89 CRX HF. i bought it in the summer of 07. it was a P.O.S. with the stock hf motor matted to an 88 si trans with huge 16 inch wheels (which btw killed the 50mpg thing) no interior no exhaust and it ran rich. but hey, anything for a no rust chassis right. the reason i got it was because i had goals of getting it into the 11s with a single cam turbo. those plans fell through the floor when i got about half way there and ran out of money. the motor got dropped exactly a year ago and as a shell it got moved around from garage to garage collecting parts as it went. it eventually ended up on jackstands back in my garage in about january and it sat there doing nothing. i kept buying parts for it but between school work and hangin out with friends i never had the motivation to put it all together again.

one big reason that i lost motivation was because i had started driving my volvo 850 turbo station wagon. which by the way is fun as hell cuz i turned up the boost to about a bar and it still gets about 25 mpg with me and all my friends in it and i can haul around all my stuff. its an all around great DD.

however, recently i walked passed my HF as it sat there motionless in a sea of honda parts. i then thought to myself that i have everything here to get it running again, so why not try. i called up a few friends and we all started doing what we could to get it back together.

the reason i have created this thread is so i can 1. keep a log of what i am doing and 2. get feedback, ideas and motivation from other honda owners.. now on to what i am working with

this is how the car sits at the end of todays work .. so far all we have managed to do is strip apart an already gutted car. we removed the motor and all of the front suspension and steering.

now for parts. i have had this car for more then a year now, and in this time i have developed a nasty habit of picking up every honda part i can get my hands on. which now leaves me with enough stuff to build three cars.

for the inside i have tracked down a full interior, integra seats, speakers, and an alipine head unit

for the suspension i have got a set of pic coilovers, a set of ground control coilovers on illuminas, full susp. and brakes off a DC2 gsr, full susp. and brakes off a 91 crx si, a traction bar that i cant identify, energy susp. bushing for absolutely everything on the car

for under the hood i have 2 d16a6 blocks, 3 d16a6 heads with manifolds, a d16z6 head and 2 manifolds, a d16y8 head with manifold, 3 si transmissions, 1 dx transmission, about 8 ecus for all the corresponding heads, and plenty of mpfi harnesses. there is alot more i am forgetting

THIS IS NOT A FOR SALE THREAD.... the reason i posted all these parts was so that hopefully you guys could help me find a good combination to put together on my car

anyway this is what i have and any input would be greatly appreciated. i will try my best to keep this thread updated daily with better pics.. thanks for you help in advance

All those parts and none to share!?!? haha

This is a bump for motivation because I am in the same boat.. My hatch has been on jack stands for 7 months and everything is right there in front of me.. I just need to put it all back together (My first clutch)...

Sounds like you have a wide variety of opportunities and I am interested in seeing what you build!

what are you trying to get out of the car. you either want something really fast or something really fun .

im not really looking for power/fast at all, my goals of turning this into a drag car are gone.. i would be happy running 18's all day .. i just want 1. to drive it again for the first time in a year and 2. have it be as fun as possible using parts that already exist in my garage and basement.

so for the motor i was thinking the best combination would be the a6 block with y8 head on the si trans... would anyone else agree that, that would be good??

i would also want to find out how to make a hybrid transmission so i can run a dx 5th in my si trans

I get the same way..start getting into a build and just get bored with it. Let it sit for acouple months and then get started back into it. Good luck and if you need any help let me know.

I vote for a mini-me turbo setup.

a6 block + z6 head + y8 mani + home made turbo = lots o' fun

ok todays up date. removed front and rear susp. and started getting everything ready to be put back onto the car

old and new front suspension.. new one has the energy susp bushings

old and new rear suspension .. new also has the energy susp bushings

si front caliper

gsr front caliper

pic coilovers VS ground controls. pics sit lower when spun all the way down

how the car sits at the end of the day

plans for tomorrow are to clean up the motor and get the y8 head on with clutch and flywheel .. also put the car back on its wheels and hook the steering back up.. done with work today because there is a concert tonight in baltimore

Looks like you like the color silver: CRX, PIC, and the E46 in the background.

i think i am going to try the gsr brakes up front with hawk pads or ebc green pads on brembo blanks. the rear brakes are the exact same between the gsr and the si according to the parts number

can't wait for this thing to be running. as soon as J gets the motor to me tomorrow, it'll be assembled and ready to go back in the bay.

edit: J also if you wanna boost it, i've got my setup laying in my basement. get that manifold back from chaz, and i've got the turbo, charge pipes, bov, downpipe, and intercooler to make that thing a demon

man, friends and fun are almost as important as the car.

to be honest, my build is stupid slow. it has been 7 months, and my swap aint done entirely. yes, it is always nice to post up stuff often, but do it right. then throw up a video
