Where did you mount your amp?
I dunno if its a "good" location but its common and thats where I have mine.. its behind the rear seats.. I had them under my driver and passenger seats before (got more than 1 amp) and I had an experience w/ taking home a girl that was drunk.. lets just say on the drive home.. some spilled drinks and some throw up later (eww) I drove the rest of the way w/ no sound ..
I will NEVER mount my amps under my seat or give drunk people rides home again!!!! a new amp, wiring to run them to the back, carpet cleaning/steam cleaning, baking soda, and some carpet deodorizer and my car was good again lolz...
you could always make a custom amp rack or something too..

damn that sucks. I thought about putting it under the driver seat. But the only problem is that during the winter the carpet gets wet from the snow.
As for custom rack, I need something that i can still get my spare out, without ripping out all the wires for the amp.

I mounted both of mine under the seats. I take my car snowboarding every weekend. I just place large towels over the carpet since my floormats wouldn't fit after the amp install. Whenever anybody gets in the back of my car, I always remind them that the amps are under there. I had to bent some of the metal under the seats to get them to fit.
Good luck

I had a four channel under the drivers seat at one time and had some clearing issues, could'nt move the seat back the whole way, plus 4 channel wiring was just too much, now I'm mounting them in the trunk in a false floor and amp rack.

another issue I had w/ the amps mounted under the seat was that I was always afraid that the seat might scrape up the amp and scar/scratch the casing as the Alpine amps are pretty tall/high.... also when you have rear passengers they might put their foot on the amp.. or worse yet.. if its raining and they have wet feet/shoes on your amp....
I'm glad I moved my remaining working amp (the driver seat one) to the rear/back of my seats.. plus my replacement PPI amp would have never fit under the seat anyway (its too long) now my rear passengers (don't have any often.. but still) can have some foot space w/o me worrying about them having wet feet/shoes or stepping on my amp...
I hardly ever fold down the seats and don't haul big things w/ my car since we have other larger cars to do that.. so scraping up the amps loading large cargo or whatever isn't much of an issue for me.. you might be concerned if your a college student or are moving or whatever.... so just make sure u don't scrape them up hauling cargo or use another car like I do... plus it'd be too much trouble to take out the subs and box... much easier just to use my parents cars to haul things..

Or what you guys could do is get a die grinder, cut the back of your seats out ,build a mdf rack and put it there...........and use the original back as a cover
hey its a thought

wouldn't it have ventilation/heating issues if its enclosed inside the rear seats like that? I've never tried that so I really don't know if it would or not.. but just thinking..
Simply cut out a 5/8" plywood or something to fit behind the rear seats. Then cover that up with carpet that matches the rear carpet. Use some wood screws to hold the board in place. Simple, clean, no heating issues, saves room.
Downside to that is that if the amp is longer than one rear seat, you'll have to make a board that covers both seats. So when you flip down the seats, you'll have to flip both simultaneously rather than individually.
I will be doing the same thing once I get enough time. I have my amp screwed onto a board above the rear trunk panel that covers the spare tire. I have a strut bar that sits very low so I placed my amp there like this:

This was before I put in the board below the carpet so the amp won't move around.

I have my amp under my passenger seat. Just had to bend the bottom of the seat in so it wouldn't scrape the top of the amp. Seems to work pretty good but I do worry about people in the back with wet feet so I am thinking of mounting it behind the rear seat. I thought about mounting the amp behind the interior trim beside the rear passengers. Almost right beside the rear speakers. If you put in on the inside between the inner shell of the car and the outer shell. There is alot of space but the only problem is getting to them, but if you tune your stereo right you should be able to just leave the settings as is. just a thought
Well you would have to account for ventilation issues...add some type of fan system.....would it ruin the seats...on one level yes but I personally was sitting in the rear of a pal's stang and blazer and could not tell the diff between a REGULAR seat and the Modified ones.....what was evident was that you didnt see was AMPS out in the open. I guess don't knock it until you have seen it or done it.
I was not knocking it.. I even said in my original post that "I don't know" and that I've never tried it.. I was just thinking there might be issues w/ the amp heating up between the seat under the board/cover...
do you have any pix of your friends setups?

I apologize GSRaCeRbOI...I was just making a generalized statement..sorry. As humans...we sometimes fail to " think outside of the box"....sorta akin to the H22 in a crx/civic debate that pops up every so often. " oh its not streetable...it will have understeer..yadda yadda....So have you done one or have driven one....Uh...no ".
You get the picture...so i meant no harm by the statement. As for pics I'll try to get some and post them if i can.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen this set up done before. It's just not practical for me, I need a setup where I would be able to take the system out with ease. I take my car to the track, and I need to be able to put the system in and out without spending a lot of time doing so.

then the best way is to make a little amp rack, use quick connect wires for power speaker etc. This way when you goto the track, you undo your quick connects, take out the amp rack (this can be as simple as an mdf board with amps mounted to it and the wiring stapled (for lack of a better word...do not use staples) down neatly.
Then just pull out the speaker (also on quick connects) and your system is out!

Okay you have shed more light on the subject.....since you race it...wieght is everything...you could make a modular system that includes anp rack and box..when you want to race...unplug box/amp and have fun...Maybe a general desciption of what you have presently and what you desire will bring forth ideas a plenty.
Here is what i have: I have a single 12 inch box with a JL 12W3 in it. It will be powered by a Rockford fosgate 400a4 amp. I was thinking of just mouinting the amp on the back of the box. My biggest concern is keeping the box from moving around. I was thinking either using straps to hold the box in place or placing some kind of peice of wood so it pushes against the box( But that will cause the rest of my body panels to vibrate) Thanks.
I cut the wires to the sub/amp combo extra long so I can position my sub all over the place to make extra room when I'm cramming lots of stuff in the car.

Wow DEE that looks like its coming along great..
couple of questions, did that rectangular (looking) box fit perfectly into spare tire well if so, do you have volume measurements? how much was your floor raised by to accomodate.
I'm guessing you used the board under the carpet as a guide for your cutout if not any measurements would help..
I'm actually planning to do this right after exams (so i can get my damn car out of winter storage......i'm feeling pain)
Good luck!

I decided to keep my sparetire so the sub box is mounted on top of the board. I used a the rear carpet and a cardboard template to make my boards. The rear board actually rest on the spare tire via the 1/2" x 1/2" braces while the front board lays on the body of the sparetire well. I gonna use two carpets to cover all my new crap that is wasting space in my apartment. The sub box has .82 cuft of space and has (4) internal braces. I'll post some more pics later.
