junk yard tranny how can i tell what i got by just the the internal

few weeks ago i went down and yanked out a d-series 90-91 cable tranny. i have the split and is not wide open. how can i tell what tranny i have by counting the teeth on the diff? or is this possible? what do i need to do?

thanks... i did a half *** lazyman's search on the subject.

count the teeth on the ring/diff gear and then count the teeth on the countershaft (the one with 2 bearings and a bolt on one end). if you come up with 3.88:1 ratio its a dx trans, 4.25:1 ratio its an si trans. if it isn't either of those, then post back up..
