Intermitent Engine Shut off
Hello everybody, first time posting here and it is with a question! I have a 1990 Honda Civic EX and recently my car has randomly been shutting off. It doesn't feel like I'm running out of gas so I don't think its a fuel problem. It feels like some one reaches over and turns the key off. After it shuts off I can start it back up again if I wait like 5 minutes. Any idea of what could be causing this? If anyone has any info it would be great.
hello fellow noob, i might have an idea for you to check out. it happened in my 99 accord and we were not told about it, apparently there was a recall the dealership forgot to tell my dad about and it ended up being on the ignition switch, the car had the exact same symptoms that you have, shut off randomly, whenever it felt like it basically, and wouldnt start until it wanted to.
doesn't sound like thats the problem. Sounds like something is getting hot, cooling down and then you can start it again. Prehaps its the spark plugs or leads, maybe even the dizzy cap.
ignition switches in the EF and da integras are known to go bad after a while.. and whose symptoms are to a T exactly what you describe.
go to this page http://mycomputerninja.com/~jo....html to figure out how to diagnose it as bad. if it diagnoses bad according to the PDF on that page, you can either clean out the old switch to try to fix it, or just buy a new one.
