Default vss ?

My speedo does not work and it is plugged into the tranny. How can it stop working of its cable driven? Also, would it have an affect on how the cars runs if the speedo didn't work?

check where it goes into the cluster, sometimes it can be disconnected enough to not work but still looked plugged in. also try pulling it out of the tranny and hooking a VSR drill to it and running the drill, your speedo should go up to like 70MPH (try it both in forward and reverse) if the drill doesn't make your speedo move then either the cable is broken or it's disconnected, or your cluster has stopped working properly. And yes the car will act up sometimes from having the speedometer stop working, the ECU uses the signal from the speedo.

How do I use the vsr drill method? I'm not sure how to do it or what to hook the drill to.

At the transmission, pull the inside completely out of the housing:

The entire inner cable should be 34 3/4" long..
If not,it is broken..
If the cable is in one piece,Grease it up and stick it back in the housing:
