Are there any dual-din head units like this: http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-e...-W505

that have removable faces?? I really need a new head unit but the last thing I want to do is spend 800+ on a new head unit only to have someone break a window and yank it right out. Any such head unit?

Do you think a radio block off plate would work? I don't know...it seems like the face of the head unit would stick out too far to fit a block off plate or a dummy face.

Once you peel the face off the stock HU and grind off anything on the back and make the face as thin as possible and recess the aftermarket HU a little the "dummy" plate will look like a stock HU, I have done it lots of times.
A block off plate is not much better then nothing at all as you must be hiding something.
I did have a customer who wanted me to recess the HU, [single din] a little so he could install a block off plate that he had "embossed" a "pix" of a stock cass. deck to and glued some ***** to, that was pretty good, looked real until you looked real close.

How do you recess the headunit? I thought they were pretty fixed to a certain position?

If the unit is ISO mounted, you can usually change the mounting depths with relative ease.

It's cool, thanks though.
So in the event that I bought that unit:
http://www.amazon.com/JVC-KW-A...r=1-6
would I be able to recess it a little in case it doesn't sit very flush with my dash? I read some comments people had about it not sitting extremely flush due to the removable face.

It is an "ISO" mount so it is easy to recess the HU and you can do the "custom" mounting on a bench as the whole assembly, [holding HU] comes out of the dash... http://www.installdr.com/Insta...5.pdf

Just get a piece of 1/8" Plastic from local audio shops and trim it to fit the dimentions of ur openeing. I put my radio back 1/4" build the piece. Go get a old dead radio take it all apart. Take the face and buttons and sand them down and glue them on and then u got ur dummy plate.
What dummy wants a stock radio is a dummy LOL.
