96 honda accord overheating
I just bought a 96 honda accord lx 2.2. It gets hot when stopped. When I take off, it cools right off. I got curious and instead of taking off, I put the car in neutral and increased the rpm to around 2000 and the temp guage went back to normal also. I have a new radiator, thermostat. The timing belt and water pump have also been recently replaced. I tested for a head gasked by filling the radiator up with water with the engine cold, and reved the engine with the radiator cap off. It did push some water out of the radiator. Is there another test I can do for a cracked head gasket before I get that changed? The car starts up fine. It doesn't have a miss. There is no steam comming out of the tail pipe, and there is no water on the dip stick. I'm hoping some one can tell me something else I can check. Oh I forgot to mention that both fans are comming on when it gets hot.
You may be airbound. This condition occures when a system is drained and refilled for ... wait for it .... a Water Pump or a Radiator. Sometimes manufacturers incorporate a bleed tap, ofter found on the fitting the upper radiator hose affixes to.
If yours doesn't have one, raising the front of the car higher that the rear will often allow that air bubble to pass into the radiator, where you can purge it.
I should also ask... Have you confirmed that the Coolant Fan(s) are operating correctly?
