Default mobil 1 syn oil change

just had my first oil change to mobil 1 syn for the first time.

for some reason my vtec doesn't kick in till after 6000rpm and it dosen't feel as aggressive as when i was using conv oil? but i was able to redline my car alot easier.

temps are the same when comparing? you may want to check oil pressure.

Mobil 1 is fine....

is all of your oil in? did you check after the the ride?

RedLine is a better product, but Mobil is not bad at all >> it's better than 90% of the other oils out there.

There is something else going in here - it is not the Mobil 1 oil...

i picked up a bottle of Mobil One at the AutoZone yesterday... and put it back on the shelf! (That was also a useless, non helpful statement!)

I'm positive that changing oil has absolutely nothing to do with vtec engagement or anything else like that. Make sure the engine was warmed up, make sure all your nuts and bolts (and twig and berries) are on tight, and make sure all other variables are the same before you blame the new oil.

That said... Mobil One 5w-30 burns WAY too much.

What weight of oil did you use before?
5w30 may be too thin. (I am weary of using it, bu tI live in TX)
I'll bet it's the weight change. . . . .

Yea, a LOT of ITR owners put Mobile 1 in, that is def. not the problem.

Edit: 5W30, 10W30, either of them is fine, it won't affect your car at all.

This is a very interesting problem. I wonder what it maybe? Have you checked your oil?

What rpm did vtec kick in before?
I run mobil 1 5w30 and it kicks in for me right at 6,000 rpm.

I posted this before but I changed my oil to Mobil 1 syn. from conventional And I have found that I can drive 60-90 miles farther on a tank of gas. I know this because I take very long cross country trips (750 miles same route) and since the oil brand change I can skip the gas stations I always stop at. I’m not saying this newfound mileage was due to the new oil. Maybe something was adjusted. Maybe the gas stations moved closer but that is my experience.

thinner synthetic oil means les resistance in engine, and since the engines parts are able to move more freely , then the engien has to do less work and so mpg should rise a little, but 60-90 seems like a lot extra from just oil.

Perhaps you just think your crossover is happening later than usual. Kinda like when I wash & wax my car it just feel faster than when it's dirty...
