The ULTIMATE ITR Anti-Theft Device?
I haven't posted any technical discussions in a while, but this just sparked my curiosity. A friend of mine, which I will withhold any names, owns a PY ITR. I was having a little discussion about him going to school and worrying about theft.
He kindly showed me his little "extra" measure he has.
His first line of defense is your typical alarm system. Which I must say is very, very sensitive.
His second line of defense is of course Lo-Jack with stickers on the window.
His third line of defense, which I find absolutely ridiculous and crazy...
is a Re-Pinned ECU connector. Seems like my friend has a little too much time on his hand. He has set aside an entire weekend and randomize the wires on the Wiring Harness side of the car. He then created a specific jumper cable that decodes it so that someone could not get in an just pop an ECU in and drive off. This is crazy I thought, so he showed me his working model. Without the harness all the gauge lights come on and it goes through it's sequence. But try and start the car and no mas. no va. or NO GO!
His little jumper harness fits inside his backpack when he goes to school. The only way someone could take it would be with a flat bed or tow truck.
What do you guys think? I'm still in a little bit of shock.

I can't help it. It was just a crazy idea. Yack doesn't think so. We don't care what Yack thinks though.
But even if a thief found out about it, how would he go around that? You can PM me what you think if you like. I'm just curious.

Len was quick to call me on this one... LOL.
Len, while I think it's a great layer... flat bed always wins.
I highly doubt a theif is going to first know what wires go were correctly, nor spend the time to de-code it.

I guess unless he had a shitload of time, they wouldnt. But at that point they would just call there buddy and wait for the flatbed.

And as far as posting secrets, I've heard Clitz & Yack are secret "saddle pals."

Pretty good idea, I thought about doing this meself. Dunno if I'd get some wires crossed though
I think it would be a great step towards preventing it from being hotwired and driven off. Once a flatbed arrives, it's just a recovery mission then....GPS.
I think most caRs are still stolen by hotwiring.

I mean are flatbeds that common? I asked him about that and he said, you know most thefts happen when a car is hotwired, if they bring a flatbed, they can have it.

Sig-Sauer P226 with +P+ Hydrashocks ought to do the trick
Prolly more common in Cali/NJ/Chicago/etc where the theft problem is a real business for these POS thieves. In and out quickly, won't get pulled over by troopers for driving an import with a big wing. I mean, who ever questions a flatbed carrying a car.....besides us
I wouldn't be worried about flatbedding in Buff.....but I'm still gonna be prepared with GPS.

LULZ.
Even if the thieves had an idea of what of this.
They still wouldn't know which wire went to what on the harness.

considering you can steal a car with a flatbed in broad daylight and nobody will question you, it's gotten more common.
Flatbed can steal a car in about 45 seconds now, and people just think it is being towed for parking violation or REPO.
ESP for an integra that has a rear tow hook that is so easy to attach to, you can prolly steal an integra out of a college parking lot in ~30 seconds.

Similar idea in this thread here. I think this user has a simpler, and possibly more effective method.

So Ive noticed more and more everyday sense I joined the honda scene (coming from toyota's) that almost regardless of even in stock forum that almost all integra's are targets.
I have also been into 12volt, and tinkering with different things and thought I would share some of my tips.
Owning a 4dr gsr and running the DOHC vtec badge my car natural becomes a target.
1. Black box ignition
I took a comparison picture to show the major difference. The common weak point of the standard igition is the "neck" that goes from the igition to the mounting plate, this is where the colom lock runs up threw and is about a 1/4" square bar, althought this locks your steering wheel it leaves the side walls at about 3/8" and very weak.
You can clearly see the size difference, also another advantage is that only 00/01 Integra's came with this ignition and have the factory immobilizer system, which is by passable but takes more time then some thiefs are willing to put in.

2. Pad Lock on column
Easily done by removing a few panels and taking off the plastic shroud around the column. If they want to tow your car with a tow strap they arnt going to get very far not being able to turn.

(borrowed image, if the owner has a problem let me know)
3. Multiple kill switches.
I currently run 5 and feel confident, but personally discretion is suggested. There is the common fuel cut, but think outside the box.
head lights / driving lights
Main relay
ECU
Alternator
Distributor
Although these do take time, tedious unlooming, and in highly draw applications require a relay they have eased my mind.
4. Pull my Main relay.
Religiously every where I go, its a 2x1" box and just shove it in my pocket, I have became so used to it that if its not in my pocket I worry.
5. Pull my ECU.
Its big its cumbersome, it sucks but I would rather have my car. I have a turbo, so my ECU is chipped and yes other ECU's would start my car but run good enough to get away is another story.
You can make pulling it a easier task by either melting down or filling the tabs that lock the plugs into place, there is enough pressure that the plug stays in.
6. Re-Pinned ECU.
This might be a more daunting task then some feel safe to attempt. I have my Ignition 12volt switched pinned to another spot in the ECU wiring harness and other wire, and then within the ECU the 2 connectors and been de soldered and re soldered to there new locations.
What it breaks down to, plug in another ECU then mine and it fry's yours... makes the circuit board fry and pops my fuse.
7. 2 way alarm
I cant stress this enough, also test your range so your know for sure how far away you can be away from your car. Mine advertised 1/4 mile buts its realistically around 1/8 mile for mine.
8. Hidden alarm / siren / Multiple sensors.
Again a horrible project to take on but worth it in the end.
I unwrap almost all interior wiring / loom, run all alarm wiring within factory loom, and tape it so it looks factory. all my connections are soldered and heat shrinked and all almost invisible.
Hide the brain, anyone should know by now that underneath the dash is horrible spot, I have ripped out so called professionally installed alarms in under 3minutes. Get creative.
2 examples which I use.
Underneath the seat, underneath the carpet within in fabbed aluminum box that is bolted down. Also when re-installing the seats I use a combo of different type head bolts, such as Torx, allen, 5/6/7 point inset.
Within a 1/4 panel, within a fabbed aluminum box, covered by a sheet of aluminum.
Sirens, I run 8. Remembering to use a relay when running more then 1. I have a combo of exterior / interior, they are insanely loud, but like most people now days a car alarm going off is common place where mine sounds like a fire truck and gives people a reason and wonder to look.
I have 4 motion / vibration sensors, one in each corner of the interior.
Glass Break, a must.
I don't like proximity sensors personally because birds / cats etc set them off but to each there own.
Also another thing to look into is window modules, I have 5 one per window / moon roof, that when I arm my car that is closes all my windows so there is no chance I can leave them open.
9. G3 Unlock Switch Bypass
There is even a how too, there is no excuse not todo it.
10. Manual Locks unhooked.
Dissembling the inner door handle is easy, If I remember correctly there is only 2 philups screws holding it on, then a small plastic clip that holds the linkege into the flipper, pull it out and no one will be able to unlock your door with a coat hanger or hand.
11. Window Tint
Big debate here, I dont think its worth it.
When you break a window the glass will fall and hopefully attract noise, with tint your adding a layer of flim that when the glass is broken is causes little to no noise and also makes the broken glass easy to remove in a solid peice gaining entry into the car.
Thats about it off the top off my head, yeah its annoying but I would much rather have my car at the end of the day.
Any questions let me know, I will try and help.
