The power supply was gone on this 7909 unit, so I had the unit repaired .
Sounds amazing ! I Havent heard anything this clean in car audio ever !!
Even the installer was impressed , and hes been doing car audio for 20+ years...

Here's some pics and a video !

It is a very good HU, top of the line at the time, but that was some time ago, if you can find a new or nearly new one, [the one in the pix looks to be in pretty good shape].

You did read the specs in the link I posted, right? 94

The sound quality is slightly better than say a 9887. But everything else seems to favor the 9887 and probably most other new $400 headunits. You get a warranty, dozens of connections, sound quality that's plenty good for most stereo setups, and more features.

My Alpine CDA-7892 will outperform it, as would the Alpine CDA-7995, [also a HU without internal amp].

The Alpine DVA-9861 and it's optical output will outperform all the above, and lets not forget the Alpine F1 HU, it would pretty much spank anything out there.

With that said, if you can find a 7909 in good shape and at a reasonable price and use a good quality amp(s) you will not be disappointed. 94

I have owned a few in my life, installed too many to remember, it was a great deck. Is it still cool, you bet, still sound good, yes. One thing that stands out, is I don't recall the 7909 having sub out or sub control.

Honestly, unless your set on purchasing one, I would look at a few of the newer Alpine decks, I use a CDA-7995, great deck with many more features and better sound from my experience.

I would compare owning a 7909 now to watching the original Star Wars movies today. For the time there was nothing like them. are they as fresh and ahead of their time now as they where then......

I had one of these a while back. Nice HU, but I jumped camps and went with Eclipse. Haven't looked back since.

Actually the CDA-7892 is 4x50W, [max power] but otherwise pretty much the same as the CDA-7893 and CDA-7894 and still a very good HU. 94

Sorry, I meant the CDA-7893. Also, my Alpine ZR-12's below the box.

I have using my CDA-7893 to drive two sets of Eclipse 6.5" 2way speakers, [tweeters removed from the rears] with no off-board amp with very good results and although the 2ways will be replaced with Eclipse SP6510s and a JL Audio 300/1v2 I will be keeping the CDA-7893. 94
