Def. cool bikes, you considering getting one? I absolutely love the Suzuki 650 V-twin (shared by both the strom and the sv), I tried my friend's naked SV and was absolotely blown away by it's smooth torquey power delivery.

I've seen them close up, and I don't like how big the fairing is, nor how tall and heavy it is altogether. I'm sure that for strictly road use it's perfectly fine, but for the hairier offroad stuff it's unwieldly. Also, they definitely need a skid plate for the exhaust and oil filter, they look very vulnerable.

I myself am leaning heavily towards a KLR650 as my next bike.

a buddy of mine bought a klr650 and straight away did an iron butt ride out to colorado and did some off-roading with it. other than random bolts and crap vibrating loose, it seems indestructible.

That's exactly what I intend to do if I get one. We camped out in Gunnison Valley on our cross country trip, and there were a lot of ATV trails everywhere heading up and around the buttes and stuff. Beautiful country

The KLR, while not as dirt capable as XR650Ls or DR650s, seems to be much better suited for long distance riding with its smoother engine and huge (6 gallon) tank.

From someone's trip on ADVrider:

Those pictures are exciting...my friend's dad has a KLR that he has offered to let me borrow. How's about we all meet 1/2 way between Cali and NY and do some adventuring?

I'd love to do another cross country ride, but I'm afraid these next two summers will be dedicated to internships/jobs. Unless...I ride my motorcycle to the place where I'd be working

I sort of already ride my bike like a dual-sport:

If you give me a couch to crash on and a place to change oil and adjust valves...
