throttle position sensor advice
Hello,
I posted this on the other civic board (later models) and thought I would try again here as my car is older.
I have a bit of a dilemma: my 2000 civic lx needs a new throttle position sensor and the mechanic has not been able to find the specifc part for that model and year. He mentioned that he would have to get the complete throttle body (manufactured by honda) and this costs about $500 new and $175 used.
My concern with the used part is that it is under no warranty. Another alternative found on ebay, is a TPS manufactured by "omni power" selling for $50. The mechanic doesn't know this brand and felt leary about installing it, concerned that it could disrupt or damage the car's computer. I therefore don't know what would be the best solution.
Has anyone used "omni power" TPSs and is there a site that offers reviews for these?
Or in my situation, would I be better off going with the used part? Thanks for your thoughts, BB

used throttle body. Just make sure you can exhange it if its bad. (most junkyards write on their stuff with a paint marker so they know its something they sold). Or find a local honda guy does a lot of engine swaps, somehow they always end up with a bunch of TPS sensors.
