HELP!!! I busted the bolt that holds my wheel on!!!
OK i was rotating my tires and when i was putting the last lug nut on, it BUSTED the bolt that sticks out. I'm so mad at myself, i cant believe i was so stupid to do this. My car is a 2001 GS-R it has 13,000 miles on it. Will Honda cover this under warranty? I know its my fault but can i still get them to cover this? Im a little scared now because im only 18 and i dont have a lot of money to spend on repairs. If they don't cover this, how much do you think it will cost? Right now im driving with only 2 lugs and 1 wheel lock. I would like to get this repaired ASAP.
Here is a diagram that i found on acura automotive parts

What would need to be replaced?
BTW: my car is lowered.... will they blame it on the lowering? Can anyone think of a story that i can make up so they can cover this? Its a leased car.
Thanks

it shouldn't be a problem...I snapped a stud not too long ago, fixed it myself. if you car is a 2001 with 13000 miles i'm pretty sure you can drive your car to the dealer and have them put a new stud on
lol, part 24 it seems like, take off your wheel, take brakes aparti belive to get to the bolt, and replace it, they should be cheap
Don't fret... it's a simple repair. Should be half an hour labour plus cost of the wheel stud. Or you could tell them that the wheel nuts were on so tight that when you used a cheater bar the stud snapped. Either way no biggie.

My friend did the exact same thing friday night. It's a pretty straightforward repair, if you have the right tools. Of course we didn't have everything we needed so looks like we'll be taking the whole shebang apart again later this week to replace that stud.
If anybody has any idea how to remove the hub without a slide hammer or totally removing the hub/bearing/knuckle assembly I'd be very interested.

OMG what a relief, i was thinking i would have to replace the whole hub assembly. So how much are we talking here, if i were to take it to honda? its just a stud+labor am i correct? im for sure not going to do this myself. could i get warranty to cover this maybe?

The part is less than two bucks. Unless you have a really good service rep you'll end up paying for it at the dealership. Having any aftermarket stuff on your car is like saying "screw me" at most dealers.
Honestly the repair is easy greasemonkey type stuff, most front end shops or tire shops can do it pretty quickly.

No, but dealers have standard labor pricing, if it takes fifteen minutes they still charge what they are told to charge by the computer.
I just assumed two hours becuase they have to take off the wheel, brake rotor, caliper, unscrew the axle nut, pop the ball joint, pull the hub, press out the stud, press in a new one then put it all back togather.

If its a busted wheel stud on the FRONT its a bitch. ( The back is easy, just pound it out and pound a new one in, just take your wheel off) You cant just take out the hub and pound in a new stud. The Hub is pressed into the suspension. you have to take off the whole assembley and press out the hub. The dealer will charge u at least 1 hour labour and they will want u to buy a new wheel bearing because taking the hub out usually damages the wheel bearing. There is a way to getto rig it tho. You need 2 2x4's, a 1.5" punch, a 1.5" socket and a hammer. Be carful not to ruin the bearing.

i busted my front drivers side....would it be better to buy the stud at honda and take it to a wheel/tire shop? will they know how to do it without damaging the bearing?
i wouldn't trip over it too much, not that big of a deal. some local shops will do it for $60, that's what goodyear charged me to replace my stud when i broke it on my front left wheel.

there is a special way of doing it without pressing the hub off. First.. you gotta hack off the old stuf with watever method you want.. but you have to cut it... the head of the stud.. somehow to get around the hub.. then with the new wheel stud in yr hands.. grind it down until you have a thin flathead.. (rectangular shape head), that way, you can fit it through wihtout having to press the hub out. I did that on my car.. works well.
$60 sounds good. But i just did a search and a couple of people said that they also had to replace the wheel bearing because they get damaged when u take the hub out or something. Is this true?
Actualy I remember somebody saying that you could use a grinder and grind away one little groove behind the hub just enough that a stud would slide out when u banged it. all u need to do is rotate the hub and line it up. That would be the easiest way.
30 bux sounds good! does pep boys do good work? i only want the best of care for my baby
thats the problem, i work all day and dont have a lot of time. plus i dont want to wait till the weekend because im only runnin on 3 nuts right now. PLUS i know i dont have all the tools that are needed.
