93 accord, fan runs after stopping
My 93 Accord radaitor fan turns on about 3 minutes after turning car off and will run about 5-6 minutes. The radiator has just started to leak so when I have this out to swap is there something I can check to fix this? Also is there any where better to get a radiator than my local parts store?
Thanks CabinTroll

It is normal for the fan to come on after the car has been shut off. When you shut the engine off, it is no longer circulating coolant in the block. The heat in the block continues to heat the coolant in the engine; when it gets hot enough, a temperature sensor will signal the fan to come on to help cool the engine. If it continues to do it long after the engine is cool, then you have a problem.
Better source? Honda dealer? Check Majestic Honda's prices on line.

I've used Majesitc Honda for most of my "Dealer Only" parts requirements, but you could do a lot better than Honda's price if you can E-Shop or are in a large Metropolitan area.

I think that the fan controller also incorperates a timer, the fan will run after key removal but only for a predetermined amount of time, anything past that, the controller is bad. The politically correct term is a Hot Soak. The timing issue, also dealing with the main ECU, things are still happening on many cars, then the computers Go To Sleep, once the computers go to sleep, this is the time to start diagnosing for certain problems, such as parasitic battery drain. Certain precautions need to be taken as to not Wake Up the computers when diagnosis is started.
these are the cases when folks get up tomorrow morning to a dead battery. Sorry, just a little trivia since I have nothing else to do this very second.

It's not abnormal for the coolant fans to cycle once the engine shuts off. This system requirement came about from a lack of excess coolant capacity, problamatic convective circulation, and that nasty habit that engines have of behaving like Heat Sinks (giving off heat once the circulation stops). It's a matter of how long the fan's run.
You may find that everything returns to normal once you address the radiator issue.
