Default Is This RPM Normal?

I just bought an automatic 2000 Prelude for my daily driver. While driving on the highway at around 70-80 mph, I notice the rpm is around 4000. Is that normal because it can't be good for fuel economy can it? Any help is appreciated.

I don't know about chik cars, but with a 5-speed transmission it works like this:

40mph = 2000 RPM
50mph = 2500 RPM
60mph = 3000 RPM
70mph = 3500 RPM
80mph = 4000 RPM

and so on

as for fuel economy....preludes arent that great on gas to begin w/....relative to civics, integras, etc. if i drive my car non stop on the freeway i can get about 380-390miles off one fill up. city/freeway 50/50....i can get around 350-360miles from a fill up. thats about 29-30mpg freeway....~27mpg city

that's damn good for a prelude. i'm getting 280 a tank. 40/60 city/fw. let's not make this into another mpg thread.

LOL @ mpg thread.

They are higher reving motors if you've come from a domi (domestic)

At 120 Kp/H im at 3750 in 5th gear. Sorry I don't got that in miles. You can do the conversion. I think your 4k is about right.

I get almost 560 km's highway per 50 litres of gas. so about 10.+ km's/litre as far as fuel economy which seems about right where yours is. I wouldn't worry too much, I think things are fine with your lude.

As long as you aren't in the left lane, you don't have to worry about me seeing you do that.
