It's a 94 accord lx with a 5 speed 180k on the odometer. Got the car cheap as a daily driver. Has all new front suspension and half shafts. Shifter won't engage 5th gear at all. It will engage 3rd gear but trans does nothing. 1st, 2nd, 4th and reverse are all good. There is alot of vibration coming through shifter. Do you think it's the trans? I would appreciate any insight. Thanks for any help.

does the car have a aftermarket intake on it . we have seen a lot of cars come in with transmission problems for the 5th gear and end up finding out the intake piping is hitting the counter weight on the shifter linkage. if not the issue you will need to tear down the transmission and inspect for the cause of the problem.

 

It has the stock intake on it. I have no experience in manual transmission rebuilds. I have did some older chrysler and gm automatics as well as many motorcycles. Would it be worth tearing into the trans or just getting a used one from say a junkyard. I would apprediate your opinion.
