Default Clutch question

I really know nothing about cars.

Are clutches for the most part model/manufacturer specific or universal?

My clutch is going to get replaced soon and I don't know what to get. I know I want something that grabs a little more. Cause whatever I got is terrible. I'm thinking just a stage 1. I don't think I want a lightened flywheel, or do I?

All the ones on ebay are either expensive Exedy, Spec, and ACT clutches. Then cheap shady ones. But you guys seemed to say that XTR/XTD wasn't "that" bad. Then they have model years attached to them which I think are bogus. Do they do that to get noobs like me to get drawn to their add?

Anyway my budget is around $200 for a full kit. Do you guys want to recommend me something?

if you plan on keeping the engine within 50 horsepower of stock, get a stock one.

Reliablility ftw.

yea what he said. and also the cheapy ebay clutches through a seller like gripforceclutches would be a decent way to go. i bought an oem clutch kit from them for my 93 ls tranny, and so far its holding up nicely. not bad for $93 shipped.

No you need one that is specific for your year car.

Thats the question I'm asking. My car has a b7. And b7's didn't come in 89 cars. I need to know what year clutch to buy. Or if b2 and b7 cluches are the same.

you need to get a clutch that matches the trans you have. whatever year and model car the trans came out of it, is what clutch you need.

i agree but also keep in mind what flywheel you are using as this may also make a difference.
