Default Heater only blows luke warm

88 crx si. heater has always not worked so well, i kind of always just dealt with it. it blows luke warm at best. but this year as winter is coming, i turned it on the other night and it only blew 5-10 degrees warmer than outside temp, which was 60's.

i have to manually move my heater control valve and the air mix door under the dash, and have had to do this for the last 5 years once it switches between winter/summer. i run a 180* thermostat. i think the problem might be the blend mix door, like its not always closed off from the heater core or condenser. my thinking behind this is that in winter, the heater barely works, and in summer the a/c barely works, i know for a fact that the a/c system is in proper working order and is charged properly, i've had several a/c guys look at it and can't seem to figure out why it won't blow cold, the a/c system has all new parts along with compressor. but this is about my heater now, just giving a little background on the vehicle.

any suggestions? is it possible that the air mix door is not fully closed off to the heater core? i've tried holding the under dash lever closed to see if it wasn't fully closed, but it didn't help.

How about fixing the stuff so it all works properly as intended? While you're doing that, you could take the assembly out and check it and make sure it all is opening and closing properly and that there isn't anything in the way.

You may also have a partially clogged heater core. Could always see how well it flows.

blower is good, it blows fine, its just the temp.

i could fix all the stuff so it functions correctly, but i've did that in the past and it didn't fix the temperature problem, it just made it to where i didn't have to manually open the valve/mix door. and it only work for a about a year, and broke again. and those climate controls aren't the cheapest parts. plus i don't mind opening the hood and switching a valve and closing the blend door twice a year.

i think i might check for good flow thru the heater core, then maybe run a flush.

check to see if your coolant system is hold pressure... i think i had this issue years ago. also check the heater core to see if it's blocked.
you can force water with a garden hose in the innlet hose, and let it flow out thru the oulet hose.

have you ever had the coolant flushed out? because weak coolant is useless....if its any color other than bright green, get rid of it, flush it out. and i mean a full system flush, not just a rad drain and fill. even if you were to go to a lube shop, like jiffy lube, they would be able to adequetly perform a coolant flush with the machine. that will get all the coolant out of the system. heater core and all.
that is where i would start. hope this helped
