Mine does the same thing with the exception that my light comes on after about 5 minutes of driving and stays on. Then stays off the next time I drive the car, and goes on after 5 miutes of driving. My speedo also works.

my 91 std does the same thing, code 17.

I know there is a wire that goes to the ecu, it tells the vehicle speed, well I switched out my cluster for an 89 model and the wiring didn't match so I just matched colors. Now I have some other problems, no high beam indicator, and code 17!

today i drove around the car for a while and tried to put in neutral everytime i had to coast for a bit. well after a few hours of driving around i tried coasting in gear again...and no cel. so...i duno ...maybe the sensor is slowly going out but if its warmed up a little it works?

has anyone ever changed their vss sensor? it's up in the cluster isnt it?

From what I hear that sensor is quite expensive. But I haven't yet shopped for it.
I imagine it could be bad. Simply not telling the ecu what the speed is but because it's a cable for speed the speedo works.
