Default My Frankenstein exhaust project

Ive been putting off replacing my exhaust now for the past 1/2 a year or so. Its gotten to the point where I scare animals and make little children cry when I drive by. Enough is enough.

Im fairly cheap, so I didn't want to go out and spend another 1/2 thousand on an exhaust when just years ago I bought my now rusted out Tanabe Medallion. After searching around, from exhaust shop to exhaust shop I realized a good custom SS exhaust would cost me the same as a name brand exhaust online.

So my plan, buy a knock off SS exhaust on ebay, chop off the ridiculous can and replace it with a worthy muffler. I figure, the knock offs are worth it for the 2.25" SS mandrel bent piping. For 100 Bucks I cant go wrong.

Part list:

Ebay 2.25" SS N1 style Catback Exhaust ~$130
Magnaflow 5"x8" Oval 2.25" SS Performance Exhaust Muffler part #12215 $50
2008 Accord V6 chrome exhaust tip finisher $35

Total cost: ~$215 in parts

Now I haven't seen or heard of anyone trying such a feat, so I have no idea what the finished product will sound like. It cant be worse than what I have now. If it does end up sounding raspy I will get a magnalfow resonator to replace the one built into the pipe.

I plan on having this done next week some time, either by my buddy or a shop if I get lazy and dont want to drive all the way out to his house. I will make sure to post sound clips and pictures of it installed.

Here is everything that arrived on my front door step today!

Another goodie I picked up today.

that looks good. From what i've read on the internet, the ebay exhaust fit decently. And with the MagnaFlow muffler if should have a very nice sound to it. Good job....

Piping is piping, pretty much the only thing that'll make it sound raspy is if the packing in the resonator gets all jacked up....even then you could replace it with a cherry bomb muffler or a glasspack or something. They're like $22 from the parts store and u can use em like resonators

I would check the welds on the eBay exhaust piping every now and then once you install it...other than that sounds like a good deal

Magnaflow mufflers usually sound pretty good, too. I have one on my Prelude and it sounds better than a lot of other Honda exhausts I have heard.

I had to cob-job on my OEM axle back exhaust because the inspection station wouldn't pass my Apexi world sport exhaust. i was pissed.. Massachusetts has not very specific laws about exhausts so i get hassled all the time and can't do much about it because of the wording of the laws. I see you are from Boston, how is it out there with aftermarket exhaust?

it's [freak]ed up motorcycles can be loud enough to physically hurt your ears and cops will smile. my nice sounding exhaust that is no louder than some stock muscle cars get pulled over all the time.. what the [freak]?

My exhaust is a little funky. Started as a Pacesetter 2.5" no resonator and crappy muffler. Threw in a resonator later on and it was a little quieter. Chopped off the muffler for a twin loop and now it sounds good but it's a little loud, and the assorted Pacesetter flanges leak. Thinking about swapping on a factory muffler and getting at least one of the flanges removed and welded up

I've got magnaflow exhaust parts (unversal fits) with the vibrant axle back, nothing at all wrong with them. The sound is exactly like stock pretty much, untill you floor it, than it sounds nice and deep. No raspy, or rattly tin can buzz bomb sound effects.

As everybody else said too, the piping is nothing to be concerned about. Quality mufflers, cat converter, and resonator is somewhat needed as with those parts you get what you pay for (even though magnaflow is very inexpensive and does the job)!
