Default Battery Light

Was driving to work the other day and my battery light popped on, I thought I was just a loose cable but as I was driving home that night the car died, let it sit for a liittle and tried starting it and it wouldn't it would turn over but not start got a jump and tried driving it and it just starts to slowly die again and won't start again, kept giving it jumps till I got it home and pushed it down the bottom of my street, the battery and terminals were brand new before I bought the car but it sat once the swap was done so im thinking its the alternator....any input it would very helpful..and where can I get an alternator for ?

My uncle usually tests the alternator by turning on the car, and disconnecting the battery if it shut off it was usually the alternator. If it's not that it might be a loose ground.

you can take it to auto zone or wherever and they can usually test the alt. for free. i just replaced mine about 2 days ago and i would say this is what it is.

It's the alternator, open up your phone book and call some shops. Could just be the brushes. Its roughly 90 bucks for a refurbished alternator.

get your trusty DVOM
battery voltage with car off should be no less than 12.6v thats a healthy battery
with the car running voltage should be around 14v
if not your best bet is a faulty alternator

Testing the alternator doesn't always do the job. Mine was tested 3 times and passed everytime. They had me convienced it was either my battery or my wiring. Took it to a battery/alternator shop; 15 minutes later I have my alternator back in my hands and it turned out to be the brushes.
