Default Tach opinions?

Ok so i firstly i'd like HT's opinion for this. i have a cluster from an 89 civic, thought it was out of an si (untill i actualy saw an si cluster) and figured out it's not...

but any ways, what do you guys think i should do, use the cluster w tach that i bought

OR

use the stock cluster that came in the hatch, and install an "external" tach on the c piller? i have a SMALL (4" tach that goes up to 8g's, as apposed to my cluster that redline starts at like 5500, and stops counting at 7).

i can post pic's later tonight if wanted. thanks in advance guys!!

Up to you.

I have both setups, and can change at will. To be honest due to theft and ease I use the 3 1/2 mounted to the gauge cluster hood and non si cluster. found testing it with an oem tach it's a hair better and a lot tighter post 6k

Depends on what engine you are using, if you aren't one of those people who get clusters because of higher redlines or higher MPH just use the stock SI cluster. My car came with an Autometer Comp Monster tach which i removed and sold. I'm using an SI Cluster btw, 6.3k Redline 8k max.

well i'm going to have a d16a6/d16z6 w an si tranny mini me swap running obd1, probly with a p28 tuned on chrome or somethin(haven't gotten that far). will have the usual bolt ons, intake, ebay stainless headers, some sort of cat, and an obx "three" inch (it gets reduced down to 2.5 at the axle back connection) cat back w like a 5" tip (it's crazy big), lightly lowered (NOT slammed), rockin 13's for now and eventualy 15's w full interior... lol goals for this car are mpg and comfort, with some guts when needed. probly will go with outer tach for now... i don't have an si cluster, it's actualy an hf one i think? idk, the numbers go up to 7, but the actual red line goes up to where 8 should be, but eight's not there. plus i have an external one in my van, and it's easyer to see the tach when needed if it's in perifial vs. having to look down, imo.

thanks for the replies!

There is no reason for a 2.5 exhaust or 5 inch tip on a fairly stock mini me set up. I would stick to a 2.25 (or 2") and a quite muffler but thats just me. As for the tach, I would go with the SI cluster, just because I don't like aftermarket tachs.
