How many people think as I do..............??
Not directing this post to anybody at all.....but, does anybody here ever feel that any these cars that are stolen and listed in this forum are insurance scams? I'm a conspiracy theorist and I read into things too much I will admit, but damn, all these stolen cars are a little much don't you think? Just thinking.......

No, not at all. Obviously you have not been introduced to the real world of ITR ownership.

While it would be close minded to blindly assume it doesnt happen, its more than sad to say that most are not. A quick search would find that more than half of the stolen threads have pictures of the findings...if they are found.
Its a flipping shame, but the majority of us simply cannot daily drive our cars. The reason? Theft.

I would think most are for real, not insurance scams.... Insurance is a serious bitch to deal with after your car has been stolen, ESPECIALLY an R since their actual value is hard for insurance companies to get a figure for due to rarity.
I just can not grasp the idea of someone doing that to an ITR

my .02 cents....NOPE, it's sad but there are really that many lazy no good people out in this world that don't know how to work for there own stuff.

But without a follow up of the post theft conditions, it would appear to be suspicious. So to post pics and appear to be upset and concerned would be the way to go.

^ That is exactly right, so many complete pieces of shiit out there who cant work for what they want. Its sad.
I believe R owners for the most part buy a ITR for what it is and appreciate it, not the kind of ppl who would ruin a R for the purpose of scamming insurance companies.
Though Im sure it has happened before, not enough to effect the over theft rate ITRs suffer from

I've only heard a couple cases of possible insurance fraud. One was pretty credible. Guy stripped his own PY out west and then was caught selling the parts locally. Vast majority of thefts I'm quite sure are just POS scum taking what isn't theirs because they don't have the qualifications in life to acquire a caR on their own.

Yeah, I've seen those shows. Good but they only target opportunistic thieves (i.e. leave car running or keys in plain site). I wish they'd target the [freak]s who can hot wire these caRs even with a decent security system engaged.

OP- Insurance fraud has a minimum jailtime, varying from state to state. Its safe to assume 5-10 years. A local gs-r owner(Close friend of mine) woke up to his car stolen. It took two months before they would cut him a check because they were investigating him. The gs-r? Never found. Just as it would be naive to assume fraud doesn't happen, it is also naive to assume that these claims are not investigated. Insurance companies are in the business of making money by calculated Algorythems. It is probably safe to assume that the insurance companies know a ballpark percentage of people who commit fraud.
I would love to get into the field of law enforcement where I can bait ppl with ITRs
Like take a theft recovery and use it as a bait car i.e:.. leave it at a mall over night or impound lot ect... catch the bastards in the act

There was nothing stupid about my comment, though I can't say the same about your interpretation. I never implied in any way that an ITR was sacred, nor did I compare ownership of an ITR to anything.
If you think that ITR thefts are predominantly fraud, then you just don't get it.

For what insurance is paying out recently, my thoughts are the owners would be the ones getting scammed if stolen.

Exactly. I am out 6 Gs because I just had the engine/trans. rebuilt when mine was stolen. Even with receipts for the work and examples of what these cars are worth, that's all I could pry out of the ins. co. They orig. offered far less.
I would advise anyone with a nice ITR to get agreed value coverage.

That is my plan once my rebuild is finished. It isn't going to be fun, but worth it. Luckily I'm close to the 25 mark when my rates should drop dramatically.

I think insurance BS is wide spread though. Looking at my buddies 2003 Cobra mustang for example. His only has 27,000 miles on it and is in immaculate condition. They are selling for an easy $25,000 used in that kind of condition but insurance companys are only offering $19,000. I'd imagine most of us could get in the $14,000-15,000 range for our cars...yet what are we seeing from insurance? $10k?

$14-15K (or more). Most of the settlements I've seen posted here have been fair (although some companies have been more generous with their initial offer, while others have required owners to argue). Not all, but most.

On one hand you have a business that is trying to keep profit margins high, on the other you have customer service/satisfaction. Its a shame that many here have to go through the arguing process after paying high premiums etc, but on the other hand the lower initial offers keep premiums down.
