Default Why am I losing power on a 2.5 piping with 4-1 header?

I have a stock jdm gsr with 10:6 compression with bolt ons like skunk2 pro series manifold, k and N air intake and filter, and Itr header with 2.50 piping and Es Oval.

I feel like Im losing power or torque. Is it because my motor is stock? Plus it sounds really funny like really really ricey now.. My old piping 2.25 used to sound deep and throaty.. Now it just sounds raspy and canny.. Someone help me?

oh btw the piping is mandrel bent and using same exhaust cept I had the shop open up the hole from a 2.25 or 2.50 so the pipe will fit.

Even your top end feels weaker?

Not possible. Well, bottom end maybe. But your top end should feel a bit more open. Your probably thinking you lost alot of power because your bottom end lost a bit. And check your header between the flange and the piping of the exhaust itself. Thats the only spot that will make it sound raspy. It should sound decent.

actually I get really good top end when vtec hits but its really laggy on the low end like under 4k.. not torqy at all.. the guy at the shop that did my piping made sure there was no leaks so Im guessing its the muffler.. it doesnt sound deep like it used to.. now it sounds ricey and canny. its an es oval exhaust. btw I have white smoke coming out my exhaust. is it because my header is breaking in as well as my new piping? will it go away? I have no cat and its straight pipe. (eeek)

What happened to your car happens to every stock car you dont have all the back pressure you used to so you lost some torque gained some hp.

stock gsr with too big of exhaust you will lose bottom end torque but gain some on the highg end. its the same as running a stock gsr open header, you lose power. just cause its louder doenst mean its faster. any stock motor with bolt ons i would suggest 2.25 max.

yeah I have a built b20 block and planning to do b20 vtec with the gsr head I have and transmission. thats why I made the preparations for it to breath better. Im just really annoyed of the ricey canny sound coming from my exhaust now.. it never did that before and its so annoying..

is it gonna be a stock b20 bottom end or built bottom end? if stock you still gonna get the same raspy sound

no its a build b20b block. compression with gsr head is gonna be around 11:07:1? is that good enuff? Btw what is causing that raspy sound? is it my motor not pushing out enuff for the 2.50piping or the exhaust itself?

your exhaust is sounding raspy from running straight pipe and no cat.. throw on a high flow cat and a resonator, then it will sound way deeper!!

I found that putting the muffler up further in the exhaust system makes it sound 100 times better. Most mufflers put at the end of the system sound thin, farty and tinny.

Does anybody know why cam profiles overlap, meaning that the exhaust and intake valve are open together for a small amount of time? they do this for a scavaging effect, basicly as the exhaust exits out the exhaust valve it helps pull in fresh air from the intake valve. With NO backpressure you eliminate the effect and no longer works.

with 2.5" exhaust there is still back pressure especially with a 2.25" header, he just needs a cat and resonator. GL OP

what harm will that do to my motor? its been acting really strange lately and sometimes idles really low then comes back up.. you think its from not having that much backpressure?
