is there ANY kind of washer or gasket that goes between #11 and #12?

I replaced the o-ring behind mine a few months ago and there was no gasket elsewhere.

Its not needed because both pieces are assumed flat - or the whole assembly is crossthreaded or warped. Also, since there is virtually no pressure differencial between pre- and post-filtered areas, it doesn't matter. Furthermore, the space is so tiny, any particle that could make it through that gap will also pass though your oil filter.
