Default buying a 98 v6 need input.

im looking to buy a 98 v6 accord. i dont know if its ever had its tranny replaced. from what i see the car has never been hit as the paint is original and the car drives and shifts great. my question is about the tranny. why is the warranty not covered for the 98 v6's as they are for the 99 v6's?? is there a difference in them. im not too worried about having to replace one later on in life if need be as i know how to do it. i just dont want to deal with it so ill be changing the auto fluid every 20k miles or so and the day i get it also. input is appreciated.

they had problems with the trannies in all of the 6th gen accords. i believe there was even a recall on some of them, but regardless your gonna have to replace it. i have had 4 in mine. but just do a 6 speed swap and call it a day.

Actually, I believe the "extended transmission Warranty Program from Honda was for 99 thru 2001 Accords and Odyssey's
A google search should scare up a copy of the original correspondence to the original owners.
Up until approx three years ago, dealers were honoring SOME requests for help from non-original owners; but this was based on different factors.

I'm not sure the '98's were sourced from the same vendor as the '99's and later.
Do your research, collect your maintaince reciepts (hopefully from a dealer(For this exercise anyway)) and send American Honda Corporate a letter. (and be nice)

wow only to the original owners huh ... its the fault of the engineers not honda owners ... they shouldn't have to pay for their mistake ... that doesn't make them look like ******** at all

As I said, they offered some consideration for SOME non-original owners as well. But it was more a brand loyalty / dealer support kinda thing. If you bought it used (Certified) from the dealer and serviced it at the dealer, then you stood a better chance.
Honda (and all manufacturers) don't want to get into the business of supporting used car sales (and used car lots in particular) by infuring increased value to a piece of Cr**p they may have sold.
Without a warranty or maintaince history with a dealer, Honda has no way to judge vehicle operation, the care it was given or any abuse it may have suffered.
Thus the original owner gambit.
