Default HX wheels not fitting my EX, opinions please!

My car is a 1997 Civic EX.

Hey everyone, I bought a set of 14" HX wheels from a good friend of mine. The inside of the front two wheels rubs the side of the brake caliper. The driver's side isn't that bad, and I can spin it. But the passenger side is very hard to turn, like its locked. Any idea why the passenger side is rubbing harder than the other side? I'm aware that I need to get wheel spacers to fix this, but do I then also need extended wheel studs? Is it safe to just grind the outside of the caliper down? Thanks everyone.

The rim isn't bent, it doesn't do it if i put it on the other side.

I think you should just get the spacers, not to sure on the extended studs though.

just grind it down a little, its so little you wont notice, a lot of people have done it, check the faq for how to do it, dont get spacer i heard they mess up your hub some how (thats in the world of ht so i dont know that as a fact) whoever said don't grind it is saying that because they don't have the hx's on their ex

i believe you need 5mm spacers up front, get them and be done with it.

Sounds like you dont know what youre talking about!

HX wheels will not clear the ej8/em1 (ex/si) brake calipers, as-is. You can either grind the caliper, where it hits OR you can get 5mm wheels spacers, as suggested previously.
Get the spacers.....

This is a topic thats been covered before, many times. A search wouldve answered this.

To put 14" hx wheels on an ex you have to go to hardware store or parts store and get spacers or washers if you put 3 8ths of an inch on the studs it pushes the wheel away from the caliper, i had a 98 ex coupe and i put drag radials on hx wheels and thats how i got them to work.- jus put a washer on each stud i bet you they will work!

I've got a set of HX on 93CX with EX brakes.
I lightly ground the steel caliper bracket till wheels fit.
Been working long time. No problems.

This topic has some replies that are a prime example of why people should not answer a topic that they have no clue about.

To echo the correct answers you can grind caliper/hanger or buy spacers - it's simple.

...or sell me those HX wheels so I can toss them on my mom's wagon. I've been looking for some economical wheels for her ride!

You should either get spacers or buy 30 Cent washers from Home depot.

I've had wheels crack in center from running washers.
Not enough support. Spacers much better, or grind.

omfg washers?? really smart....
5mm stack of washers with limited contact area has less stability than riding on 2 lugs

wow... just wow.... thats all i have to say at some of the comments on this page...

honestly now... washers for wheelspacers? first off - washers arent all the same thickness.

secondly it pushes the wheel away from the hub and wouldnt take much to snap a stud or crack the rim.

extremely dangerous and i dont reccomend it unless if you want your tire coming off as you go sliding into the ditch or a few other cars.

if the rims aren't bent all you need to do it grind down the brake a bit... my boyfriend had the same problem with his dc and he grinded the brakes and it worked... the hx rims are only meant to fit on the hx's and dx's without modifications.

hx wheels wont fit a ex or integra front brakes just go get spacers or just put washer on the studs between the wheel and rotor and you will be fine
