Default serious newbie

hello all, i recently bought a 1996 (ek i think haha) 1.4 civic. i wanna put a better engine in the beastie. looking at the web everyone seems to be talking about fitting B16's or H22's and so on and i was after some help as to what would be the best route to take, i want to do some work on the engine before i fit it too so i was also wondering what the best modifications to the engine would be (i'm on a budget not too tight a budget). any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

There are so many engines you can put in now. B16, B18B, B18C, B20, H22, K20, K24. You really have to consider what rout your taking though. Are you going to go all motor or turbo. Here is the link to FAQ

i'd like to go for the H22 but that seems like a lot of work, i think my ideal plan would be to get a b16b (cant find one though haha) replace intake/outtake manifolds fit a decent exhaust and induction kit for now. then once i can afford it replace cams valves pistons.......everythin basically with quality performance parts haha!!! does this make sense or am i talkin ****?

nice one guys thank for the help, lookin at a b18c now. do you recon the engine mounts will be the same on a 1.4 civic as on a vti or type r? cuz i just bought some coilovers and there was a difference between the suspension mounts on the 1.4 and the vti/type r.

Welcome! Use the search feature and do some reasearch on the engines, you first need to figure out what your expecting and wanting out of your car, if you ask a general question like you have, your bound to get 200 answers, all different, but none wrong.....check out the FAQ section, good luck with the build! :-)
