HELP!! O2 Sensor Problems/ Emissions fail
I really really need some help please. I have a 97 Civic EX manual. Engine light has ALWAYS been on for 5 years because of o2 sensors. I was always able to pass emissions before on the exhaust pipe test, but now that WI has gotten rid of that, I cant pass. They only do the obd test, and obviously if light is on I fail.
So I have a header on it, and I am told these two o2 sensors that I am "missing" (code says open circuit) are supposed to go into the stock manifold. So can I not put o2 sensors into the header? Do I really need to put on my stock manifold for this code to shut off?
If someone could give me some advice on what I can do it would be great!!! I really dont know if I need to give more info or what so just ask.

if you are missing both sensors, DAMN get the "bungs" as they are colled, welded in, in the correct spots, the pre catalyst sensor, is need, if its not there, then you are using wayyyy to much fuel, you could be saving a lot of money by having that sensor in there! and the post catalyst sensor, is need to verify the cat's operation, and if you dont have a cat, i cant legally help you.e xcept, get a cat
I have to find out what the code was. I was just told something about open circuit and high voltage, which would make sense since the 2 connectors dont have anything in them.
But I am confused on this whole thing. I always thought I only had 2 sensors, one in the front off the header and one in the rear off the cat, so I dont know why these people are telling me I need FOUR. Wow.
So yeah, why couldnt I just plug in the 2 sensors to hopefully get the code off...will that only work if they are secondary?
Oh- and I do have a cat.

Maybe you need two that work properly?
A sixth gen only uses two o2 sensor. Most aftermarket header's have the o2 bung welded into them and capped with a plug. Take out the plug and screw the primary o2 into it.
You said the cel was on for 5 years because of the o2 sensors, so they have either been faulty for five years, missing all together or never mounted.
