Default swishing noise

i was out and about just playing around in second gear got on it doing 45 at about 5000 rpms, right when i hit 6000 rpms there was a weird swishing noise. i think i may have a bad alternator belt. could this be? if not, what could it be?

Need to be more specific.

An alternator belt is a very easy thing to rule out. Check to make sure it is tight, then spray it with some belt dressing.

i have no ac, if anything heat may have been on. alternator belt is tight and dressing has been applied bout 2 weeks ago. it almost sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. but it only seems to happen in 2nd gear?

I run my heat and never hear any sound like that.

Only in second gear? Would only make sense if it was in the transmission.

Try and make sure it is not just speed or just rpms.

where's the sound coming from? Front or rear? could be a bearing, could even be brakes.

That doesn't make sense. If it was a bearing, it would get louder as your speed increases.

i honestly couldnt tell you where it is coming from. i heard it and quit. i did just get new brakes in the rear. but why would it only make this strange noise in 2nd gear. well i guess i could go and try and pin-point it. but i just dont wanna [freak] anything up.

engine bearing? or wheel bearing? I had a wheel bearing with intermittent swish like sounds before I found it.

its coming from the front of the car. only doing it in second gear at 6000 rpms. havent changed the fluids in a year or so. may 10k. its almost sounds as if you over tighten a belt and its slipping. but i know thats not it cause it wouldnt do it in just second. i wanna say its coming from the passenger side. it sounds like a fluttering blow off valve.

yea its a short ram, maybe 100 miles on this filter, it almost like flutters like? never done it before tho. this past sat night was the first. maybe the air is denser or something? it did it at like 2 in the morning, and it was LOUD, then i did it a little while ago when it was warm, not as noticeably loud buts still there.

I dont think it would be an exhaust leak, if it were that, it would sound that way in all gears around the same RPM I would think.
