I am burning out pumps. They work for a while, start whining when I turn, and several minutes to a half hour later stop working. Question on the bottle/reservoir. Does it have any kind of valve, filter, etc on the bottom that can clog? Think that somehow pump is starving itself and not getting any fluid. Any help appreciated. I am using Honda ps fluid.

how many pumps have you burned up? they're aren't any filters or such on ps systems. i'm leaning towards the belt being an issue.

 

^Word. Gotta be a belt. 190k on my modified ex with a obx p/s steering pulley and my pump works just fine. Does the belt look straight? Tightening the hell out of it? It does not need to be super tight....

 

Just toasted the second one. These were both used, but I do not see how they could work and just stop after I coincidentally use them. I do have the belt on pretty tight-it is straight. How does a tight belt kill a pump? I do not suppose loosening it will help.
