Removing AC compressor belt Help Please
In a 90 civic, is cutting/removing the ac compressor belt going to effect anything else other than the AC? I know some cars use the same belt for the ac compressor as the alternator....To me it looks like 3 different belts, one for the ps, one for the ac compressor and one for the alternator. Can anyone confirm this? I think the compressor is making this weird winding noise and It's driving me insane. The AC doesn't work anyways.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thanks for the reply...Anyone else want to confirm this? Pleaseee! I really don't wanna find out after that I shouldn't have cut it...
You know, there's also a quick, ghetto way of removing a belt: loosen the tensioner. But I guess if you're nit-picky you could go to the trouble of hacking it up.

Thanks to the people who actually helped. Turns out it WAS the ac compresser belt. It was in the begining stages of failing.

Thank you, I cannot express in words how much you've helped. I did open the hood, how else would I know that there were 3 belts? What I was asking is if that particular belt controlled anything else. The reason I'm not just removing it is because the ps pump is in the way and I don't feel like going through all the hassle of removing it just to take an old cracked TRASH belt off. And for the ''smart'' *** who says you can take it off without removing the ps pump, that's true, if you have a jack. Yes, I have one, but the last time I used it...it failed and went thru the splash guard and broke the O2 sensor off, luckly that was all it broke off. I Think that about covers it.
Boy, I wish I would have done it the smart... way and not the ''ghetto'' way. I could have used twice the time and saved a rotting belt from being ''hacked'' up.
