Opinions on 06-08 Yamaha R6?
Hey guys so its been a little over 2 weeks from my accident and Im getting the itch pretty bad now.
Insurance is about to cut me the first check for my RC51 so im lookin into an R6 for track
sometimes itll see canyon and street but the distribution will probably be like 75% track, 25% canyons and street
What are your opinions of the new generation R6 for that purpose?
Im looking to spend about 7-8k on a newer..ish bike so thats what im leaning towards
LSD specifically, how do you like yours? Any wishes? Pros and cons?
thanks in advance guys
and for anyone who tells me to read a review, suck it. I want to hear opinions from people here who have actually ridden or owned one.

honestly, i can't say much as it was my first bike. that being said, i can't compare it to anything else.
what i can say though is, the bike handles like crazy. it goes where you want it, when you want it to. it does lack some ***** in the power-band, but that's nothing some gearing couldn't fix, hell i'm still on stock 16/45 gearing and don't have any complaints. the egros can wear you out a bit on longer rides, but you aren't planning on doing that, so it doesn't matter. the bike was built for the track, and that's what you're planning to do, i say try it out.
/end random rant.
if you want to know anything more specific, let me know.

i just had a conversation about this the other day as to why so many catch on fire on the track when layed down. the tank is a bit wide and with a seam on the inside (from what i understand)... i've seen a couple spew gas when layed down, and even a few go up pretty quick... i won't go as far to say it's a major issue, but i will say i've seen it more so with this bike than others

it is a known issue, not very common, but it is known. they make tank sliders if you're worried about it. Yamaha fixed it for the '08+ models.

I'm tall, and compared to my 600rr, the r6 is much more uncomfortable. Another member here said it best, something along the lines of "I felt like a gorilla trying to f*ck a bowling ball". Also, on the street the powerband is not good with the stock gearing, feels dead under 8k rpm. I prefer riding the 600rr, as I don't feel like I'm falling forward or as cramped on the bike.
However, it was built for the track, and if thats where you plan on getting the most use out of it, then I would say it's probably better than a 600rr.

I sat on all the '08 models at the Daytona 200 this past spring and I found the new R6 to be the most uncomfortable out of the bunch. I'm 6'2 and can't imagine been smaller and riding that bike. The seat was VERY wide and it felt strange in the crouch area, very uncomfortable IMO. I preferred the feel of the RR by far. I could comfortable get my legs down on both sides without my pants rising 6 inches because my legs are rubbing the seat.

lots of guys on the east coast are running them and they're damn fast on the track. Get tank sliders just for extra safety. $100 to save $9000 is worth it...
