Offical Build Thread **540 whp Type R PUMP gas** w/ AC, PS, & ABS (56k no way!!)
PICS of engine added!
Well the car has been running for about 4 months now, but I never got a chance to make a thread on the build. This was my first ever turbo build, first full (internal) motor build, first time pulling a motor, etc. It wasn't cheap by any means, but your only young once.
I need to shoot out a special thanks to:
Jeff Evans (www.evans-tuning.com) Great tuner, great advice, great guy. He has tuned my car for the third time now. Each time the car has made some of the highest numbers I've seen for what the car has had done to it. As well, I got consistently great gas mileage and reliability out of the car.
Jim Justice (justiceracingengines.com Got me the best parts out there in a timely fashion, built the motor to a "T". Kept me posted weekly on progress and was VERY patient in helping me after I picked up my motor to make sure I got everything together correctly. Was a great experience working with him
Tony from T1racedevelopment.com He answered a lot of questions before and after the build. Got me some great parts and worked with me to figure out of issues during the fab process. Great guy.
Terry from BoostFed.com ....he was a HUGE help, put up with ALOT of my bitching and definately took care of me when I was stressed, didn't understand something, or needed help...even after hours lol
Aaron from Full-race.com definately dealt with alot with my order, but got me the best parts out there and my #'s show it.
Stan the man from Fast-Turbo got me like 100 lines practically next day when I was in a huge rush
If I forgot anyone else I'm sorry, but THANK YOU!
Below you will find pics of where the car came from at its N/A build, the actual turbo build process, completion, dyno plot, parts in build, etc. The car is not done yet...I need to get some tires for the new wheels, do some tidying up here and there etc. I also plan on running the new Bosch 1000cc saturated injectors and some skunk 2 tuner 2 cams.
Where the car came from (2 of a kind custom Jenvey ITB's, Toda C Cams, Toda valve train, CTR pistons, RC 440 injectors, SMSP header, SMSP exhaust, Fidanza FW, ACT HDSS Clutch, etc)

Fidanza after 40+k miles

Clutch after 40+k miles

Motor out of car before getting torn down on my back porch for building..

Car on jack stands....where it sat for 5 months....

Engine bay naked!
(notice the red power cable..Battery re-route for T1 Catch can baby!)

Car at SMSP....Dave doing some exhaust work for me to get it lined up right!

Picking up the motor from Justice Racing!! So pretty

Motor in my basement while I re-assemble it. Head back on block, cams, valve train, etc.

Getting timing right...

THe night I put the motor back in the car!

Car complete and detailed!

New steering wheel and Wheels to go on car in the spring...(need tires)..PS I kept my horn with this wheel...if you'd like to keep it with a Sparco wheel I can help

DYNO PLOT

Don't pay attention to the upper charge pipes missing. I took them off to get powder coated and the intercooler anodized.

unless this is a strict drag track only car having fun in the rain an every day driving
the thicker your rear sway bar the closer you get to the effect of a solid axle. you're going to get alot of oversteer. how is the rest of the suspension set-up ?

Haha I actually never got a video of it on the dyno, but I'm going to re-tune in the early spring/late winter with different cams and injectors.
WHen I do, I'll shoot some video.

Its great man, no complaints at all. Was a little harsh at first but then you get used to it. Now that its a bit more broken in I have no issues cruising around with it.

I don't DD the car....but I was and am well aware of the effects of a sway bar thanks...if it couldn't be used, they wouldn't make it.....However, the ride is nice. I plan on doing a PIC coilover build, function 7 lca's, bushings, etc come winter of 2009. I add something every fall and spring. This spring is cams, customlightz HID's, and tires for the wheels.

I don't own a type r but I know with my 98 prelude a stiff rear sway bar is the way to go since it has a lot of understeer. the sway bar gives it more neutral handling experience. ^Do you even drive a front wheel drive honda?
to the op, sweet setup man!
Very sick man, I bought an 00 ITR brand new and totaled it 6 months later, I always had dreams to build her up to the level you built yours too.
I will be switching to Tuner 2's in the spring too and heading back up to Jeff for a re-tune, cant wait.....

ok cool thats good to know this is not a street car
. as for the rest of your suspension the PIC select sound like a good choice for DRAG racing, if the car was used for anything else then koni and custom ground control all the way.

when you learn about the wheelbase, springrate, and curb weight of the prelude compared to an EG/DC chassis then post back a vaild response until then "Do you even drive a front wheel drive honda?" also have you driven a civic or integra with a 32mm rear sway bar ? i have to say its a strictly race track only piece.

Very nice! Beautiful build and nice dyno chart.
What the guy above me is saying about the sway bar, the 32mm is dangerous on the street. Just be careful with it. It causes alot of oversteer, I've heard so many stories of integras spinning out on the street because of a thick bar. Anyways, it's up to you.
Now go put those rims on and take pictures! I want to see how sick it looks!

The PIC suspension was purposely designed with HPDE's and handling in mind...not sure where you heard it was for drag racing? I'd be more apt to putting Koni's on for dragging honestly. However I am not dead set on PIC right now...its another year away before I mess with it...I might do something Tein related. We'll see, not sure where I will be by then lol

i think you too may need to go study up a bit. im saying you should use the PIC rear drag coilovers here http://picperformance.com/stor...t=194
you do know that the usual street koni is alot SOFTER than a PIC select right ?
pic uses kg/mm measurements and koni uses lb/in. most people running konis on the street have rates of 8kg/mm NOT 10kg/mm and 12kg/mm like PIC. so while the PIC brand is good for road race circuits they are awesome for drag racing as well, you want a stiff car and koni DOESNT offer that for the SAME price as PIC

I'm in the same bind b/w the PIC-Swift combo and the TEIN REs like my other GS-R build. I have to admit a 3rd choice would be the Skunk 2 Pro series stuff as well.
After dealing with Koni's for years in 2003-2006, I gave up on them due to the damn perches breaking. I just wasn't satisfied with them. I could see them on a MacPherson system like the RSX and EP3, but not on a double-wishbone setup like civic/integra/TSX.

please tell me you were not using koni's for drag racing
they are too soft unless you get custom rates around 750lb/in or higher.
rear springrates for a drag car should be 800lb/in to 1000lb/in but thats my personally pref, because its reduces rear squating the best

You double your horsepower from 4500 to 5500; 5500 to 6500 you gain 100hp 6500 to 7500 another 100hp that thing must pull like a freight train GOOD JOB
youre just so cool tootsie. lol
ill see you again at the hyper meet soon buddy. i was the guy with mattyp in the yellow s2k..
lookin good man..hopefully ill have the s2k done by the time we see each other next ;-)
