Which do you think has better sound to play all types of music? This is going into my 96 civic and my budget is less than $350 for 6x9s and less than $300 for 6 1/2. But I would like to know what models you recommend because I do go for quality products. I'm just trying to budge audio and performance. I'd definitely NOT leaning towards subs so please don't suggest any.

 

Honestly, what sounds good to me might sound like **** to you. I've never really liked Boston Acoustics, they always seem to break up when the music gets cranked. Plus, the speakers only sound as good as whats going into them, so if your amp/headunit is crap, your sound will be crap as well. JL ftw.

 

I've had Boston Pros and the sound was clear and precise. This was 10 years ago. I would assume they have only become better. Only self test info. I got on those options.

You could build a fiberglass door panel to house 2 - 6.5" speakers in each front door, sound deaden the door and seal it up. Then buy 2 sets of eclipse sp6510($200). Still leaves $100 to have someone do most of the custom work.

What about 3-way component sets?

Both JL Audio and Boston Acoustics have good speakers, without knowing which models you are compering it's kind of pointless to choose one or the other.

Need more info, like if all you need is speakers and the budget is $650 for front and rears, what do you have to drive the speakers, make and models of HU and amp(s), or do you still need to get them.

let me be more specific for you then...

JL Audio 6 1/2 - TR600-CXi $140
JL Audio 6x9 - VR690-CXi $270

Boston Acoustics 6 1/2 - S65RC $120
Boston Acoustics 6x9 - S95 $130

If I get the JL I'll probably have to budget for the amp and if I get the Boston Acoustics I can buy the best amp for my set up. My car isnt going into a car show I just want a good set up for my car. My head unit is currently an eclipse cd1400.

And no, I'm not going to spend the time, effort, and money to get the best sound quality because I'm just looking for a good replacement for my stock speakers. Again, I'm not entering my car into a show or anything.

No, I'm not going to pay someone to remove some screws from my car and attach wires to my battery. I can do everything myself.

 

The it is a toss up, [IMO], pick the B/A if you want to run without an amp, pick the JL Audio if you want more output and add an amp. 94

 

Get Boston Acoustics. I had $800 worth of JL speakers (no subs) in my last coupe and they're a very bright sounding speaker with very little bass. Mids are great but treble can be VERY bright if you don't adjust it down.

 

I've just never liked JL. A few of my friends jumped on the JL bandwagon and spent tons of money on stereo stuff and to be honest I have yet to hear one of their JL setups sound as good as my setup in my truck or car which cost me a lot less money. The truck setup is a Alpine 70watt x4 rms amp for the speakers, a Alpine 9830 h/u, a Alpine 500watt rms x1 amp for the sub, 2 12" Infinity subs, Polk DB 6.5" coaxials in the rear and Polk DB components up front. All installed by me.

Heck sub wise the Infinity's always have sounded better to me. I also had a Kicker which is now in the older Honda. Used to have Infinitys in it until I blew one then I put the new Infinitys in the truck and took the Kicker out and put it in the car. The Kicker honestly sounded better than the JL to me too as long as I had my amp adjusted right. I liked the Kicker a lot but it didn't hit near as hard as the 2 12" Infinitys. Of course I'm not surprised as it was a single 10" Kicker Comp VR.

 

Hmm...Now I'm leaning towards B/A. Has anyone ever had any experience with the B/A models I posted?

 

not those personally, but i have some cheaper BAs in the decklid of my coupe that the original owner had installed and albeit they're probably some really cheap ones, they actually sound decent and have good all-around dynamics.

 

for your budget, stick to the Boston Acoustics

idk if you have purchased yet, ifo so, hope all sounds well. You could get jl's 6x9 tr series instead of vr and save more money for the amp. jl has an amazing 4channel amp that is only 350. I had clarion's top of the line components two years ago in my 02 gti. I put up some decent numbrs in sound offs, (had all clarion subs head unit amps speaks) highest models, but got blown away by a sentra with a jl setup think he had an eclipse hea though, and a bravada with a jl setup. This is why even though im not doing subs this time, i went with jl for nice clean sound in my civic hatch.

 

Anyone ever listened to Morel?? Awesome speakers and great warranty. A little pricey. But you can throw just about as mush power to them as you want and they will not distort the sound.
