Default weird power steering noise. very anoying.

So when i make a left turn, my front left (drivers side) wheel area makes a noise that sound like u take a piece of aluminum foil and drag it on rough concrete.. any ideas on what this would be? i took my wheel off and looked at undder all the steering/suspension for like rub marks but found nothing. it only makes the noise on left turns. but this sound doesnt happen everytime i turn left about 85% of the time it does...

I had the same noise. Check on the wheel. Behind the brake rotor there is a metal circular plate. It's most likely rubbing against the rotor. Just take a crowbar and bend it back away from the rotor.

Basically this is your rotor. See that metal circular thing around it. It's probably touching your rotor.

If it turns out that it is no the dust shield scraping. You should have your CV joint/axle shaft looked at. I've had to diagnose a few CV/axle shafts that have gone bad and they make a bad grinding noise. They usually make the noise when your turning into the side that is worn/broken. ie turn to the left left side axle is bad. In my observations the noise is more noticeable at lower speeds as well.

also, check for the obvious brake pad thickness, esp the inner ones

So how serious is this if the cv drive axle is bad? expensive?

dude,

lookitup online like autozone is $70 w/ trade-in for a remanufactured/lifetime warranty unit

(you can get away w/ reusing the axle nut, but you'll need a new cotter pin & have a long breaker bar/ torque wrench to put it back on to specs + a way to pop the ball joint off easily- if you let a shop do it, $50-60 labor?!?)

but check if that brake dust shield is also the culprit; and bend it out of the way... that's alot cheaper if it's the cause
