whats the difference between s80 tranny or y80 tranny for a gsr

im thinking of a gsr swap for my 98 hatch and, and i want to know which tranny is better... the s80 or y80

s80 = type r
y80 = gsr

Close.

S80 can be ITR, GSR, or LS/GS/RS
Y80 is definitely GSR

Unless you are positive of what the S80 is, I'd verify the ratios in each gear. Could be really good to not so good....
