Default What are the very minimum things I would need to tune an LS VTEC?

So im building a very mild LS VTEC. LS block with ls rods and USDM integra type r pistons. Stock B16 head. All this going into my 00 Civic SI.

Im not using this for racing purposes. My rings on my stock block are going out and instead of re-using my old block I decided to upgrade and go with a 1.8 liter. My car will not be going to the race track at all. This will just be my daily driver but at the same time i want this to run correctly.

The very minimum mods I will add would be a regular short ram intake, aftermarket header, and even bigger piping if i have to. I dont want to go OBD1.

Any suggestions on how I can tune this or if i even need to tune it? I really dont care if this motor doesnt reach its potential power. Just the added torque from the bigger block would make me happy already.

Thanks!

you can get a fuel pressure regulator to control fuel pressure and do a street tune. or get a v afc and street tune it but u have to kind of know wat ur doing to steet tune i would bring it to a performance shop and have them street tune it for you.

Without going ODB-1 your options are very limited.

vafc and a fuel pressure regulator would be my options to semi tuning it and having it run correctly?

i didnt want to go OBD1 because this will just be my simple daily driver. It doesnt matter to me that this motor can make "X" amount more horsepower if i go OBD1.

And also the money thing. I didnt want to spend the extra money on a harness and ECU. And I wanted to stay OBD2 for smog reasons.

its not about making more power by going obd1 its about being more reliable and being a smoother motor... u can get a fuel pressure regulator and a vafc and street tune it...

He's correct. Going OBD1 and getting the motor tuned is not about making power. It's about making a reliable engine with some good power. Without tuning, your motor will run like **** and probably not last long at all.

If all you want is more torque, then just buy a B20Z from a newer Honda CRV (more compression) and run a stock LS/B18 OBD2 ECU. You will gain the most torque from just putting that in your car. 145ish TQ if I remember correctly.
