yes, when I had my 95 gsr, I put 98 ITR cams in and I did better on the smog test than with the gsr cams
Remember, when modding a car that gets emission tested, make the modifications inside the engine. They're out of sight and away from CARB ... but don't hold me to that

there's your answer, crower 401s are basically CTR cams. the guy above also had the same experience. personally, i'm in the same boat with 401s. bought them because they are such an easy cam to set up and pass with, killer MPG too.

so what about tuning? I know if the motor is tuned it will run better than not tuned
but I thought chipped ecu's is not smog legal or hondata; I dont know
Thanks for the replies guys!!

depends on the state. if they only do the sniffer you're cool with hondata. if they plug in you might want a type r ecu. i think this is half the reason usdm p73s cost $200 or so

For the tuning aspect, I was doing fine with a VAFC (adjust the vtec engagement higher). I don't remember if it throws a code on an obd2 car, but I doubt it. Anyways, you'll be fine with just the gsr ecu for smog. The vtec engagement will be a little low, but the car will run fine and there won't be any codes = pass on the emissions test.
ok, so P-73 ecu and = smog legal with type r cams
so what do I need the P-73 ecu to be odb2a or obd2b? (my car is a 00)

you're going to want an obd2b ecu. Be sure to check your ecu, though, just to make sure. There are 4 plug receptacles on your ecu, but only 3 are used. OBD2a uses 1,3, and 4 and the 2nd one is empty. OBD2b uses the first 3 and the last one is empty.
obd2b has that immobilizer. this one is above my level. someone must know how to setup a p73-a04 in the 00-01 cars. do the just plug in or is something required for the immobilizer?
