Default 92 Accord Throwing Code 43 (Fuel Supply System)

I have a 1992 Accord EX. It was having weird hesitation issues that seemed to be RPM and WOT dependent. I changed the fuel filter, and the problem has only occurred once since (right after the change). Now, the ECU finally threw a code. It was code 43 (fuel system). Does anyone have any ideas or any common suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I kinda went thru the same thing after I did some maintenance work (Changing the fuel filter was one of them...) I had a nippon filter and it was a bitch i had to tighten the [freak] out of it for it to not leak...so i dunno if its something to do with low fuel pressure caused from the washer maybe being poorly centred or squished or something...or the nippon filters suck. Also I only got the code once or twice...but now my car feels sluggish most of the time. Im gonna try replacing it with a honda filter from the dealer. Code 43 I think it actually means that your car is running rich...thats what i read on here. got any other codes recently?

It had thrown a lot of codes prior to resetting the ECU, but I cleared them all b/c it did not seem like they corresponded to actual code numbers in the manual. It has only thrown this code 43 in the past month.

The Dreaded Code 43

The true meaning of this code was lost in translation; What the code is really saying is that there are unburned oxides in the exhaust.

Look for any reason the engine might be running in an overly rich condition, even a lazy O2 sensor can be the cause.

Funny, you mention the O2 sensor because that is what I thought it must be. But it was odd that it did not throw a code. I posted a longer explanation of my issue before with little response. See what you think.

I'm having the same issue on my '92 EX Accord. Upon a cold startup the engine runs fine. After I drive about 1 mile (or when the engine warms up), I start noticing hesitation in all gears higher than gear 1. After it hesitates 3-4 times, it appears to stop. I haven't driven it on a long distance since the problems started, but there was a time where I drove about 5 miles on the freeway and that's when I noticed the check engine light come on. After the engine light came on, and since then, when the engine is warm, it will rough idle. After the car sat overnight though, the engine light is no longer on, but I'm still getting the same hestitation issues upon the engine warming up, and rough idles.

My ECU is reporting code 43.

I'm convinced either my fuel filter is the problem or most likely my oxygen sensor. I called Honda and they are quoting me $228 for the oxygen sensor alone...

I'll let you know how it goes.

I have replaced both of those, and it still does it! I don't think these things will help you.

Before you change any O2 sensor, do a good hot valve adjustment inspection. Honda is a Speed Density System engine, that means that it uses a MAP sensor to make fuel delivery adjustments. Read the voltage going back to the ECU at a warm idle, it should be very very close to ONE VOLT DC, if it is just a little above or below then check timing, retarded timing will cause low vacuum. Other than these couple of easy checks, the O2 sensor is usually the problem in my experience with a half a dozen code 43 repairs.

Exact same thing happened to me with my 92 accord exr for months and I couldn't figure it out. I would be driving, then press on the gas and my car would not go. After a while of trying to figure it out, I went to Canadian Tire and bought some marvel mystery oil. Every time I filled up gas I put some of that magic oil in there and it ran perfectly. After about 3-4 times of getting gas and putting that oil in, my car is driving fine now.
