First track day = me performing a sweet 80mph lowside
I'll post pics, gear review, track review, blah, blah, blah probably tomorrow.
As far as what happened - it was the last turn of the last lap of the last session. I started in beginner and got moved up to superstreet after having a track rider follow me during the 3rd session.
All was going well - steadily getting lower, faster, less nervous, etc, etc. I first touched my toe, then my peg feeler thing touched down a few laps later and snapped off. Scared the hell out of me as it somewhat stood my bike up around a fast carousel. Took the next few laps slow and finished the session.
Then the 7th and 8th sessions I started to really speed up - during the 8th session I focused on moving my body further off my bike so I would touch my knee rather than my peg. I accomplished this half way through my 8th session and touched around a few corners. Then on the last turn which is where I had touched my toe and my peg on earlier sessions I truly put down my knee - was dragging through the whole turn. It's a decreasing radius 180 degree which I was hitting good all day, turning in late and apexing properly. The problem with this turn is that there is a little hiccup in the asphalt 3/4 through the turn. It never upset my bike to the point that it really concerned me, but this time around with my knee down and with a little more speed it happened. Low sided - slid off into the gravel - suffered a bump on my inside knee where I'm sure the bike fell on it and a hematoma (spelling?) on my left forearm from probably hitting a rock out in the gravel/sand pit I slid in to.
Anyway - it was a great time, met some really cool people and suffered minor personal injuries and bike injuries. I'll post more info tomorrow.

My fiancee? She's fine, thanks for asking.
Oh, you mean the bike? J/K. It's not too bad. I installed frame sliders 2 days ago and I think they saved me a lot of headache.
Only mechanical fixes are front/rear break levers and one peg. The shifter is bent but shouldn't be a problem to bend back.
Cosmetically - the can is smashed in, fairings are scractched up pretty good but no serious breaks other than one crack, tank has some tiny scratches, wind screen is scratched to all hell but not broken, stator cover is scratched mildly. And that's about it.
My knee was on the ground when the back end went out so the bike didn't have far to fall - it was all the sliding through the gravel that did all the damage.

Funny thing...were you riding an F4i? Back a few months ago was also my first trackday on my F4i, had similar if not identical experience, kept dragging hard parts instead of leaning off more, then on the last lap of a session midway through the day i also lowsided but you got off way luckier than me. I ended up breaking my collarbone and suffering a concussion. Hope you get better and back out there
Now this is quite a coincidence...I also had my first trackday this weekend at CMP. Started off slow and unconfident and by the last session I had a lot of confidence and a lot more speed (too much of both) and locked the front entering Turn 1, hitting the sand trap pretty fast. I stood the bike back up but then I'm suddenly in the air while the bike did a couple rotations.... Front fairing and windscreen and right side clip-on destroyed, cracks in the fiberglass fairings I put on a month ago and sand f'ing everywhere! Honestly, the damage to the bike wasn't bad and no injuries to me besides some soreness (bruised my ego too). I will probably try to repair it and do a couple more novice classes before the year's done. I'll make a separate thread when I get pictures.
Lucky boxers were obviously not enough.

Because a bruise doesn't sound nearly as cool as a hematoma, duh.
Yes it was my F4i - from what I've heard they have pretty low pegs...since one of mine is completely busted anyway along with my rear brake I'm just going to order some rearsets to replace them

There's a bunch of nice f4i track parts on the wera board right now, you might want to consider the rearset risers.

ah yes. stock pegs suck.
my first track day, on my f4i, i lowsided too after being slower in the morning, and faster in the afternoon. it was my left peg that did it.
rearsets are a must--try the valtermoto's if you're on a budget.

i went to putnam park this weekend for a 2-day event. i low-sided twice on saturday, and after the second get-off i could not fix the bike due to a bent clip-on and broken clutch lever. participating in 3 out of 14 sessions ftl
Gotta love state farm - they're going to cover the accident!
As long as it wasn't a timed event or sanctioned race it counts as a riders / instructional course. Sure I'll have to cover the $500 deductible and a $50/year increase in my premium for 3 years - but $650 total is WAAAAYYYYY less than what it would cost to replace my bike. And they're going to replace my helmet too!
Sweet!

Yeah - I meant to take pics before I took it to the shop just now but forgot...sorry guys.
It would probably blue book for $4500 (it only had 10,000 miles on it) and I really don't think the cost to fix it will be higher than that. I'd say windscreen, exhaust, maybe throttle side clip on, front and rear brake levels, brake fluid resevoir cap, all fairings, tank can be touched up, stator cover, and the front wheel / tire may need to be replaced but not certain on that one.
What kind of bike was it, what were your damages, what price did they total it out for and how much did you buy it back for?
